Drew Goddard, who penned episodes of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, as well as Cloverfield and World War Z, and wrote and directed The Cabin in the Woods, is behind 20th Century Fox’s maddening thriller Bad Times at the El Royale.

While it’s not a horror movie, it looks intense, violent, and appears to carry some sort of secret on par with Cabin in the Woods. The October 5, 2018, release date is interesting, although it finds itself going up against Venom, Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff. In addition to looking as taut as an Alfred Hitchcock thriller, the direction is astounding. This is hands down one of the best trailers of the year. The cast is just an added bonus: Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, Cailee Spaeny, Lewis Pullman, Nick Offerman and Chris Hemsworth.

In the film,

“Seven strangers, each with a secret to bury, meet at Lake Tahoe’s El Royale, a rundown hotel with a dark past. Over the course of one fateful night, everyone will have a last shot at redemption… before everything goes to hell. “
