New Screenshots, Details Revealed for ‘The Callisto Protocol’

Published

Striking Distance Studios is still hard at work on developing The Callisto Protocol, which no doubt will please sci-fi horror and Dead Space fans (especially after that epic trailer last year). That’s not to say that they haven’t been giving fans little tidbits of what to expect, and that comes in the form of new screenshots for the upcoming action title.

Game Informer was the lucky recipient of the new screenshots, which are available in this month’s digital issue. Luckily, Twitter user IdleSloth84 shared some of those screenshots, as well as a few tidbits regarding the game.

Among those details is the release date of The Callisto Protocol, which is aiming for the “2nd half of 2022”, and will be cross-generational (yay for PS4 and Xbox One users). Much like Dead Space  protagonist Isaac was able to use his Kenesis abilities, The Callisto Protocol‘s protagonist Jacob has ‘GRP’ abilities that allow him to push and pull things. That includes the Necromorph-like creatures in the game, which are called “Biophages”.

Set on Jupiter’s moon Callisto in the year 2320, The Callisto Protocol is a next-generation take on survival horror. The game challenges players to escape the maximum security Black Iron Prison and uncover its terrifying secrets.

The Callisto Protocol is in development for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, the Xbox Series and Xbox One.

We’ll be waiting a little while longer for developer Studio Cut to Bits’ gothic Metroidvania Venture to the Vile. Originally slated to launch on PC via Steam on May 7, the game has now been pushed a couple of weeks to May 22. The PlayStation release of Venture to the Vile is still expected later this year.

In a press release, Venture to the Vile producer Masao Kobayashi explains the decision to delay the release, stating that while Studio Cut to Bits is made up of industry veterans, this is the first time that the team has released a game as indie developers. As such, the team encountered a few hurdles leading up to the original release date.

“We all love Venture to the Vile and want to make sure we are delivering the best possible game we can for our players. For this reason, we have decided to delay our game by two weeks. I’m sorry to those who have been anticipating our game but I assure you it is going to be worth the wait.”

Venture to the Vile centres on the town of Rainybrook, where an unknown darkness is taking over, transforming anything and anyone it touches. Fortunately for you, you seem to be unaffected by this presence. However, your friend Ella is nowhere to be seen. You must brave the horrors and find her.
