Closed Playtest on Now for Upcoming Psychological Horror Title ‘SOMBRAS: negative frames’

Published

on

Ahead of SOMBRAS: negative frames releasing later this year, developer Maboroshi Artworks is looking to get more player feedback to fine-tune the game. As such, they’ve announced an exclusive Closed Playtest for the psychological horror title. Players are invited to step into the nostalgic, first-person narrative adventure to get an early look at the game’s atmosphere and puzzles before its official release.

To participate, simply head on over to the Steam page for SOMBRAS: negative frames and click the “Request Access” button. Slots are limited, so get in sooner rather than later. You can also join Maboroshi Artworks’ Discord server to share your opinions and feedback.

SOMBRAS: negative frames follows Shiomi Alterio, a Japanese-Spanish photography student who lives with her father in a Japanese town after her parents’ recent divorce. One night, Shiomi is engulfed by a dark dimension made of familiar streets, hungry shadows, and a cast of girls that look just like her. Shiomi must navigate these shadow-drenched streets, using her camera to capture unusual sights, and develop film rolls to upgrade equipment.

Along the way, she can befriend alternate versions of herself, collect occult trinkets, and unlock the strange doors blocking your path forward. However, she must also confront her repressed terrors in an emotional exploration of identity, youth, and dysfunctional family systems.

Look for SOMBRAS: negative frames to launch on Steam in Q4 2026.

Pre-Orders Now Open for ‘The Sinking City 2’; New Trailer Released [Watch]

Published

Frogwares is following up last month’s release date announcement (and surprise demo) for The Sinking City 2 with the game’s pre-orders now available for eager fans. Alongside the announcement, which includes a look at much of the bonus in-game content available to players who pre-order the game, is a new trailer showing off brand-new gameplay for the Lovecraftian survival horror title.

With pre-orders now live on PC and consoles, players can choose from three editions, with each offering bonus content in addition to the base game.

  • Standard Edition ($49.99 MSRP) – includes the base game, along with the Chthonic Arsenal pack
  • Deluxe Edition ($54.99 MSRP) –  includes the base game, Chthonic Arsenal pack, and The Arkham Field Kit
  • Premium Edition ($59.99 MSRP) – includes the base game, Chthonic Arsenal pack, The Arkham Field Kit, Holloway Manor, and 24-hour advanced access

The Chthonic Arsenal features mythical weapons to give you options when the abyss fights back: the “Shale Mary” handgun, the “Breakwater” shotgun, and the “Tektite Tommy” SMG, each with its own look and features.

The Arkham Field Kit adds three outfits for the main character: “The Anatomist,” “The Witness,” and “Heretic Heraldry.” It also includes three Dream Essence to learn your first Talent early and a Resource Pack with a helpful mix of ammo, healing, and crafting items to aid your first steps in the city.

Lastly, Holloway Manor is a house that belongs to an old family whose history curdled into occult practice. Rooms interlock like a puzzle box, dusty heirlooms open doors, and the house rewards your curiosity with paths you were not meant to find. See the job through, and you’ll receive the “Bucking Bronco” revolver as your reward for the main game.

Set in a Lovecraftian vision of 1920s America, in the infamous city of Arkham, The Sinking City 2 sees a supernatural flood that has driven out all but the most deranged residents, leaving decay and eldritch horrors that roam the streets. Players step into the role of Calvin Rafferty, an occult adventurer whose cavalier actions have led to devastating consequences.

After a dreaming ritual goes wrong, his girlfriend, Faye, is left trapped in a mysterious sleep. Now Calvin must navigate the drowned streets of a derelict city in a desperate attempt to bring her back. On his quest, he’ll come face to face with a plague of otherworldly creatures, the Slither, who possess and twist the dead into lethal, walking puppets.

The Sinking City 2 launches August 18 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
