Warner Bros. Stephen King The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep has tapped young actress Kyliegh Curran (pictured below) in the role of Abra Stone, a girl who has the gift of ‘The Shining’, reports Deadline.
Carl Lumbly was recently tapped to play Dick Halloran with Alex Essoe playing Wendy Torrance in the continuation of the storyline from The Shining. Those are the roles that Scatman Crothers and Shelley Duvall played in the Stanley Kubrick-directed original.
Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson also star in the adaptation of the Stephen King novel, which will be directed by Mike Flanagan (Oculus, Gerald’s Game, Hush). McGregor stars as the adult version of Danny Torrance, while Ferguson plays Rose the Hat.
Flanagan rewrote Akiva Goldsman’s adaptation of Stephen King’s 2013 novel that picks up the life of the Redrum kid when he is in his 40s and struggling with the same demons of anger and alcoholism that plagued his father.
There are direct connections in the story to the Overlook Hotel and the incidents there that informed The Shining, which Kubrick directed in the classic 1980 Warner Bros film that starred Jack Nicholson, Duvall, Danny Lloyd and Crothers.
Doctor Sleep hits theaters on Jan. 24, 2020.
