Before being asked to pull the story, we told you last month that SpectreVision would be reteaming with Mandy star Nicolas Cage on a feature-length adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft‘s short story, The Colour Out of Space. Production Weekly broke the news.
The film is to be directed by Richard Stanley (pictured below right; Hardware, Dust Devil) from his own screenplay in which Cage plays Nathan Gardner, an affluent New Yorker and family man who has taken up residence on his father’s old farm homestead.
“They are busy adapting to their new life when a meteorite crashes into their front yard. The mysterious aerolite seems to melt into the earth, infecting both the land and the properties of space-time with a strange, otherworldly color. To their horror, the Gardner family discover that this alien force is gradually mutating every life form that it touches…including them.”
You can see shades of this 1927 story in Stephen King’s short story “Weeds”, which would be adapted into Creepshow.
The film will also star Joely Richardson (“Nip/Tuck”, Red Sparrow), Tommy Chong (Up in Smoke), Elliot Knight (DC’s “Titans”), Julian Hilliard (“The Haunting of Hill House”) and Q’Orianka Kilcher (“The Alienist”).
Production on The Colour Out of Space is currently set for February in Portugal.
