New stories. New art. Same spooky aesthetic.
Successfully funded through Kickstarter, Scary Stories: A Tribute to Terror is a new book of original stories and illustrations that pay tribute to the work of Alvin Schwartz and Stephen Gammell, the duo behind the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books from the 90s.
The fan-made collection – which is, we must note, not affiliated with the official Scary Stories books – features 34 original stories from Curt Tuckfield and 60 illustrations from Shane Hunt.
In particular, Hunt’s artwork *perfectly* captures the look of Gammell’s classic art.
Hunt explains the tribute project, “As kids, Curt and I were traumatized in the best way by the Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark books. They horrified and delighted us. We waited, hopeful that some fourth volume would be released. By early 2016, we decided if anyone was going to make another Scary Stories book it would have to be us. We have spent hundreds of hours analyzing the writing style of Alvin Schwartz and the art of Stephen Gammell. This project is the culmination of that effort. Our goal in making this book was simple; to scare ourselves. We made this book because we wanted it. We knew that if we didn’t feel like it was an authentic Scary Stories experience, then no one else would either.”
You can preview four of the book’s scary stories right here and you can purchase your copy of the 230-page tribute for $24 over on ScaryStoriesTribute.com.
