Variety writer Justin Kroll just tweeted out an interesting scoop, which he says should be taken with a grain of salt as things are constantly changing. According to the writer, writer-director Matt Reeves is eyeing the Penguin to be the main villain in The Batman.
Furthermore, he insists that Warner Bros. wants this character cast in the universe sooner rather than later. If Reeves were to go in another direction, we could see Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot appear in Birds of Prey, which is centered on Margot Robbie‘s Harley Quinn. With the studio working on several variations of the script, Kroll says one such script is Penguin heavy. Production on the latter is expected to start at the end of the year after Robbie finishes shooting Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon Time in Hollywood, which she is currently in negotiations to play Sharon Tate in.
Previously, Josh Gad has been campaigning for The Penguin (fan image below). As for the title character, there’s still no word on if Ben Affleck will appear, although he’s said to be making an appearance in the standalone Flash. Jake Gyllenhaal and Jon Hamm had been rumored to don the cape, with Gyllenhaal debunking reports.
