The one thing I can’t stand about our transition into HD is the loss of that cinematic feel. Sure, the masters of cinema have found a way to make it work, but it’ll never feel the same as it did in, let’s say 1985? Right?
Let me offer this marvelous piece of evidence, a trailer for The Dark Knight that has been retro-styled to 1985. It’s been recut, degraded, re-scored and given fresh sound design, as well as a crunchy voiceover reminiscent of many VHS classics. Of all the retro trailers that find their way onto YouTube, this may just be the best – and most authentic. It’s got me all weepy and going into a nostalgic nosedive that may take a few days to escape from. (Where did I put my VHS player?)
