Netflix has greenlit “Daybreak”, a mix of high-school dramedy and post-apocalyptic thriller with zombies, reports THR.
” ‘Daybreak’ will follow Josh, a 17-year-old high school outcast who goes searching for his missing girlfriend, Sam, in a post-apocalyptic Glendale, Calif. He’s joined on his quest by high school bully turned pacifist samurai Wesley and a 12-year-old pyromaniac named Angelica.”
The world is also populated by Mad Max-esque bands of marauders, including cheerleaders who have become Amazon warriors and evil jocks, and zombie-like beings known as Ghoulies.
The series is based on Brian Ralph’s graphic novel of the same name and is co-created by Aron Eli Coleite and Rampage director Brad Peyton. For Coleite, it’s the second series pickup from Netflix in as many days: He’s also joined Locke & Key as an executive producer and did a rewrite of the pilot with creator Joe Hill.
Peyton’s producing partner Jeff Fierson is also an executive producer of Daybreak through their company ASAP Entertainment.
