Last year it was reported that The Weinstein Company’s Dimension Films was developing a TV reboot of Frank Miller’s iconic comic series “Sin City” with Glen Mazzara, the showrunner whose resume includes “The Shield”, “The Walking Dead” and the truly awful “Damien”, penning the screenplay.
While Dimension Films may feel like a happy place for us horror fans, it’s also hell for many filmmakers who see their life’s worked trapped in an inescapable rights loop. Their suffering is legendary, even in Hell. While we were lucky that Miramax tricked the company into losing the rights to Halloween and Michael Myers (we broke the news in Dec. 2015), others haven’t been so lucky. Until now.
Without fully understanding how the sale of TWC is structured, nor how they plan to move forward with the company, it appears that some properties are escaping. THR reports that Frank Miller has regained the rights to film and TV adaptations of Sin City, the noir comic book he created in 1991 and first adapted for the big screen in 2005 by Dimension.
They add: Miller now has the rights to develop a Sin City television show, as well as the film rights to 2005’s Sin City movie, through a new settlement.
Here’s hoping that Clive Barker‘s lawyers were able to wrestle Pinhead and the Hellraiser franchise away from the company as well…
