Legendary Details Graphic Novel ‘Godzilla: Aftershock,’ the Prequel to ‘King of the Monsters’

We still have to wait a while until we can inject Michael Dougherty’s gorgeous-looking Godzilla: King of the Monsters into our eyeballs, but as we recently learned, a graphic novel prequel will at least be coming along a bit earlier. The hardcover tie-in prequel, according to Amazon, will be released on April 16, 2019, with the movie following in its wake on May 31, 2019.

Nerdist updates today with the info that the graphic novel will be titled Godzilla: Aftershock, and they also got their hands on plot details we previously were not privy to. Aftershock, they say, takes place after the first film’s cataclysmic events in San Francisco. A new threat is rising, bringing with it devastating earthquakes, and possessing an unstoppable urge to destroy.

“The brilliant and driven Monarch operative Dr. Emma Russell races to stop the threat as clues emerge to reveal a terrible secret—a tragedy, of apocalyptic proportions from the distant past that changed the course of human history, is returning to threaten it once more. A shadowy figure stalks Emma’s every move as she travels the globe to uncover secrets, while Godzilla clashes in an ancient rivalry as old as the earth itself. The fate of the world lies in the balance in an epic confrontation that no Godzilla fan will want to miss.”

The official graphic novel was written by Arvid Nelson, illustrated by Drew Johnson.
