As you may recall, the late George A. Romero’s son George Cameron Romero had been working on a prequel (of sorts) to Night of the Living Dead titled Rise of the Living Dead, described as a “prelude to Night” and a “love letter” to his father. Syfy Wire reports today that the project has now taken the form of a comic, to be published by Heavy Metal Magazine.
Billed as a “prologue” (but “not a prequel”) that’s set in the same world as Night of the Living Dead, the comic is titled The Rise, and it will be published inside the magazine’s pages.
Syfy Wire describes that chapters of the graphic novel will be “serialized over the course of several issues of the magazine before being collected in a single edition.”
“It’s a story taking place at the genesis of the zombie apocalypse seen in Night of the Living Dead, entirely self-contained with its own themes, ideas, and arcs to explore.”
No word yet on when The Rise will be debuting. Stay tuned for updates.
