Best Horror Sequels

I’m watching Psycho II tonight and I just love this film so much. Anthony’s performance is so haunting and heartbreaking here. I also dig the twist at the end with his mother. What are other horror sequels out there that are just as good as the original or if not better?

Psycho III is also pretty good imo. I think most critics only hate the sequels because the original is by Hitchcock. I have a soft spot for Pet Sematary Two with it's 90s aesthetic and the view on death from teenager's perspective. The Purge sequels are also way better than the first, so is the second Ouija. Exorcist III is a true gem. Urban Legends 2 is flawed but has a more interesting approach than the first. Hostel 2 expands the first with looking behind the scenes of the Club.

Halloween II - the original Halloween II, not the Rob Zombie one. It's probably sacrilegious to say, but I love it just as much, if not even slightly more than the first film in some instances. Even though it's more of the same story, I feel it has a better score and hypes up the gore a little more.

I must admit I really like Rob Zombie's Halloween II...it is more ambitious than his first. Sure, it is completely different than the "original franchise" but I like his style, the acting (first of all by Brad Dourif) is good and it has a lot of energy.

Psycho II is a brilliant sequel and I actually think Perkins plays Bates even better in Psycho II than the original! Halloween II always hits the top of my list for great horror sequels. It picks up quickly and keeps the energy going really nicely As an outside option though, I'd say Demons 2... every bit as good as Demons and they're amazing to watch back to back

Count me in as someone who loves Psycho II and watch it much more often than the original. I would agree that Anthony Perkins turns in a better performance here than in the original. It features some great performances all the way around. I have to mention one of the earliest examples of a horror sequel: Bride of Frankenstein. While I love the original, in some ways Bride is even better. Halloween II is a fantastic sequel. Halloween is a better film, but for me Halloween is a more fun viewing experience. The Exorcist III is my favorite movie in the series. It is filled with scares, tense moments, great writing and outstanding performances from George C. Scott and Brad Dourif.
