Do we have any favorite post-apocalyptic horror titles out there?

"The Road" is such a great horrific post apocalyptic movie and Is surely one of my favorites, but its not generally considered horror. Lots of post apoc movies find themselves a part of there own genre. Any thoughts on that in general? Any secret favorite movies in this genre that you would consider horror?

Hmm I think post apocalypse as a theme used for cross-genre films. I thought The Road was a dramatic horror film. Biosphere is a sci-fi/ drama/ comedy. Mad Max is action/ sci-fi but the evil characters are like horror villains to me because they've totally lost their humanity. I know this isn't post apocalpyse but I've always thought of Apocalypse Now as a slow burn horror even thought it's a war film.

Would Night, Dawn or Day of the Dead films be considered post apocalyptic horror?

Sunshine which is more sci-fi w/ horror elements is one I watch anytime it is on streaming. Great cast.

Sunshine is one of my favorite movies, it's probably more pre-apocalypse or maybe potential apocalypse in motion, but I agree this is a great pick.

I totally think so brother. Perhaps not "Night" because the "zombie problem" seems to get cleaned up the next day at the end of the film. Some Zombie movies are not necessarily end of the world scenarios, and some are absolutely (28 years later, Day) I think Dawn could be argued that its still in "could be an apocalypse" mode. hmm Sunshine?

I would add two more "recent" movies: The Girl with All the Gifts and It Comes at Night. I think those two stood out.

It Comes at Night is a decent film. Such a devastating ending.

THESE FINAL HOURS...12 hours before the world will end rose, a young girl, teaches james, how to be a man...angourie rice, in her film debut, is definitely going to be a force to be reckoned with down the road...powerful performance...believable sci-fi script with very little fx *he wanted a boy, but got a little girl." YES, not post apocalyptic, but what a wonderful start...
