Favourite Horror Book?

Stephen King might be the king of Horror (my favourite of his is by far Pet Sematary) but my favourite all timer might be The Elementals by Michael McDowell. Not just the atmosphere and horror but the great characters and wicked humor. Would make a fantastic movie in the right hands! My favourite author is Clive Barker but I would say I enjoy his shorts over his novels.

My fave is also Clive Barker and you are correct on his short stories being superior to his full length novels. The only problem with his books is that due to how graphic and dense they are, it makes them difficult to adapt to the screen. It always disappointed me that his output has been so low and I realize he focuses a ton on his art. My favorite of all time would have to be The Terror from Dan Simmons and everyone of Clive's Books of Blood. Was happy to see the new Hellraiser adapted and all of the current Stephen King adaptations. Need to get a few more Dean Koontz movies out there as well.

Koontz is pretty tricky to adapt. I think the first half of Phantoms wasn't bad but no studio would afford the Budget for the Cosmic horror second half (when even del Toro's Mountains of Madness gets cancelled), so that climax was just stupid. I also liked Hideaway for what it was. To be fair I'm not the biggest fan of Koontz and I'm usually not mad if aspects of his novels are missing in the films. Intensity would have made a great movie...if High Tension wouldn't have snatched that spot;) Have only read Song of Kali by Simmons which I think is tense but a bit problematic to adapt.

Agree with you on Phantoms and yeah, he is difficult to adapt. Hideaway was good but the novel was so much better and there has not been a Koontz movie that was close to being as good as the book.
