Something that I personally feel many of us fans don’t take into consideration when watching a horror movie is where it takes place and, as a result, how do the local customs, superstitions, beliefs, and history of that area play into the story that unfolds on the screen. For me, that’s the joy of watching movies from other countries. Seeing these mythologies unfold on the screen makes me feel like I’m entering some other kind of world, a place that’s unfamiliar and, as a result, far more unsettling and fascinating.
That’s why I’m excited to have London electronic artist Redlight pen a list of his 5 Favorite British horror films, which includes some stellar titles that should absolutely not be missed by any fan of the genre!

1. Kill List
This is a classic British horror slasher with fucked up satan worship, cat killings, and head splittings with horror meets gangster meets P.T.S.S. Two guys end up on a collision with some twisted fuckers. You must see at all costs. I saw this at the cinema, and it was a 10/10. Check Ben Wheatley’s other films too, like ‘Sight Seer’s’ and ‘Down Terrace’, which are also great films.
2. American Werewolf In London
C’mon, this is a fuckin’ absolute classic. An East Procter, two young Americans, a werewolf, a hot nurse and loads of fucking wettings!!! SOLD… Also the nightmare scenes with the nazi werewolf people firing off rounds on machine guns, makes this an absolute banger.
3. Alien
Is this sci-fi or horror? Who knows but Ridley Scott is the OG don, so had to put it in here. To think this was made in 1979 is crazy! Still so fresh today. In my opinion this is the best one out of the quadrilogy. The set build is incredible and so is the acting… There’s also a great making of documentary about the whole filming process, which is worth a watch too.
4. The Devil Rides Out
You can’t have a British top 5 horror without the late Christopher Lee and a Hammer Horror pic. Satanic cults, weird names with Van in the title like they’re Dutch house DJs and lots of sexy ladies from the 70’s in lacy nightwear. TIDY!!!
5. Don’t Look Now
A British/Italian film, with Donald Sutherland in it and an absolute classic, with a voted number one sensual sex scene in a film. It also has some of the scariest moments in horror history. Let’s not forget the physic blind women, and a small person with a flipping big knife.
