We all have sub-genres that we are fascinated by and for me one of my favorites is the Giallo and Italian horror cinema of the 60s and 70s. I love the absurd indulgence of sex, murder, and drugs that litter each of these movies. From the black gloved killers to strange angles and lighting choices there are many things to enjoy but one thing that sticks out in each of these flicks is the great music. Goblin is often associated with the Italian horror of the 70s but last night the man who has scored more movies than anyone else (note: I did not fact check this and I will deny any proof otherwise) finally got his due and won an Oscar for best original score. That man is Ennio Morricone and that film is The Hateful Eight. Tarantino may not be the humblest of people but he has brought many of Morricone’s great scores to general audiences in his films whether they are recognized or not.
So to honor the man even further I wanted to put together a short selection of my favorite scores he’s composed in his 50+ years of working.
