[Exclusive Trailer] Arthouse Horror ‘Climate of the Hunter’ Bites Into Psychedelic Weirdness
Things look to get weird in Mickey Reece‘s award-winning festival hit Climate of the Hunter, about two sisters who vie for the affections of a man who may or may not be a vampire.
An official selection of Fantastic Fest and Fantasia, Dark Star Pictures is behind this super stylish arthouse horror film that arrives in limited theaters December 18, 2020, before biting into VOD platforms on Jan. 12, 2021.
The film was lauded by critics as a “gloriously quirky cinematic feat” (Rue Morgue) and “an instant cult classic” (Film Freak Central).
In the film…
“Two sisters, Alma and Elizabeth, along with a dog who’s described as a ‘philosopher’, have come to Alma’s remote house to reconnect with Wesley after twenty years. Alma is recently divorced, Elizabeth is a workaholic in Washington, D.C., while Wesley lives in Paris dealing with a wife recently struck with a fatal disease. When the three come together for dinner it has all the makings of a lovely adult melodrama about loneliness, and the desire to connect and share our lives with someone… but we must add to the mix one otherworldly piece of information: Wesley could be a vampire.”
Ginger Gilmartin, Mary Buss, Ben Hall, and Jacob Ryan Snovel star.
Bloody Disgusting has the exclusive trailer drop that’s all kinds of strange.

Alexander Wraith, Dani Oliveros, and Ta’imua also star.
Phil Volken said in a statement, “I’ve made several films set on the open sea, and The Bay is the culmination of my experiences to date – with my crack team of regular collaborators, the movie is finely and expertly honed to maximize the combined fears of the ocean, the unknown, sharks and ultimately, just how cold-blooded nature can be – specifically human nature.”
“I’m delighted with the scale and performances we’ve delivered onscreen,” Volken continues. “The Bay’s going to completely immerse and terrify audiences worldwide!”
Phil Volken has indeed carved out a niche directing open sea-based movies over the years, including the thriller Extortion back in 2017 and the horror movie Dead Sea just last year.
