Writer/Director Paris Zarcilla’s debut feature, Raging Grace, earned the 2023 SXSW Grand Jury Award earlier this year and is currently winning over festival audiences at Fantasia International Film Festival. Ahead of the film’s second screening at Fantasia on August 1, Bloody Disgusting can reveal exclusive images highlighting this “coming of rage” horror story.

The film follows “Joy, an undocumented Filipino immigrant who is struggling to do the best she can for her daughter when she secures the perfect job: taking care of an extremely wealthy but terminal old man. The new position pays well and guarantees a roof over their heads. But very soon, Joy and her daughter Grace start to realize everything is not as it seems. Something is festering beneath the surface, threatening all they have worked for.”

Check out the exclusive images below that tease the gothic, potentially violent “coming of rage” story in store.

Raging Grace was written and directed by BIFA-nominee Paris Zarcilla (Pommel, The Century Egg), produced by Chi Thai (The Promise, Little Miss Sumoand starring Filipina actress Max Eigenmann (Verdict) and David Hayman (The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Finding Your Feet).

“This is truly a coming of rage for so many of us,” Zarcilla said in a statement. “Being an immigrant, and more so an undocumented one is often a horrific experience for so many. It was a very natural genre to occupy when writing this story. But I felt it was paramount that the film didn’t live solely in horror where these characters only experience trauma. Minority stories often feel exclusively steeped in trauma but this needed to be a cathartic spectacle that gave way to rage but most importantly joy and celebration of our culture.”

“I want this to be a cathartic spectacle,” the filmmaker added.
