Super7 Boodega Svengoolie

The Monsters are March-ing in this month to participate in Super7 x Boodega‘s first Halloween celebration of the year: March of the Monsters. Bloody Disgusting can exclusively reveal that the densely packed “March of the Monsters” line includes ReAction Figures for horror hosts/icons Svengoolie and Vincent Price.

Brian Flynn, founder of Super7, spoke with Bloody Disgusting to explain more about Super7 x Boodega’s “March of the Monsters” line, its impetus, and what’s ahead.

“Boodega started as, obviously, a celebration of Universal Monsters,” Flynn tells Bloody Disgusting. “But it was also part of our core DNA, which was celebrating monsters, and we’re like, what’s our Halloween holiday? We need more than just the 31st. I need all month. I need time. So, that was the impetus behind Boodega, and that was really us, actually. If you look at the original Boodega, that was us going to Universal, saying, ‘We want to create a moment for Universal Monsters. We want to really celebrate this. We don’t see it happening out in the world.’

“After we did the first and second Boodegas at San Diego Comic-Con, we took it out into more of an event at Halloween time. And then obviously, as Boodega got going, we’re like, ‘I don’t want to wait a whole year to talk about monsters.’ So we were like, ‘What’s exactly the in-between time?’ Like your half birthday, if you will. That was March. And so we’re like, ‘All right, March, what is it?’ Okay, it’s March Monsters; let’s go. It’s like Boodega’s; it’s not even his evil twin, it’s just his doppelganger. So you have Boodega happening in October and March Monsters, or March the Monsters, in March. That way, twice a year, we really come back and sit down and really just kind of nerd out on a whole bunch of monster stuff and give it an excuse to come to life, which is a lot of it. Because so often it’s like, ‘Oh, that’d be really cool. Let’s save that for Halloween.’ I don’t want to wait until Halloween. I want it now.”

Fans of Super7’s horror themed collectibles know that the brand offers a mix of original creations and familiar IP, like Godzilla, for example. Of the latter, Flynn details how the Boodega limited line allows them to get creative and play around with the familiar icons of horror.

“Obviously, if I’m making Creature from the Black Lagoon, I need to make a green creature because that’s what everybody wants,” Flynn says. “So that’s the one that goes out wide. With Boodega, I can make him orange and black for Halloween, and I might do a gray scale, or I can get all the nooks and crannies that sometimes going wide doesn’t let me go, so in those moments of celebration where I know it’s just a whole bunch of monster people coming together, we don’t have to go big. We can go small and focused on really specific moments around the monsters that we think are really interesting.”

Flynn expands further, “We sort of service two fans in that regard. We have the stuff that we make and we want everybody that’s even just a casual monster. ‘Oh, I loved that movie when I was a kid. I want to buy that,’ or, ‘That’s really cool.’ But then, if you’re also that person who wants to push the glasses up on the nose and really get into it, we’ve got the product for you, too. But definitely, in both Boodega and March Monsters, we’re really trying to say, ‘Here’s those characters, and here’s a fun new way to reinterpret them that you didn’t expect or hadn’t thought about before.’

“Because you don’t necessarily need me if you’re the person I’m targeting from our sponsors or Boodega, you don’t need me to give you another green creature. You’ve got plenty. So, how can I find new ways to reinvent the stuff we love? Because I’m that collector who’s always looking for the next. What else do I not have? What’s something new? What’s a different way to do it? That’s really exciting to me. And theoretically, I hope, and it seems that other people get excited about that as well.”

March of the Monsters’ Vincent Price ReAction figure is the perfect example of Super7 targeting savvy collectors and horror fans and the thought that goes into designing every single figure.

Flynn says of designing Vincent Price’s figure, “If I grew up in the seventies and I was buying monster toys, they came on Remco cards with the grayscale photography, and then they made regular and glow-in-the-dark ones. Well, if I want to flip Vincent and we want to do glow, let’s make it feel like a 1978 Remco glow-in-the-dark card.

“Now, there’s two emotional hooks to it and two different ways in, and it’s cool, and it’s different, but I’m not trying to take that and put that in front of a regular person who’s like, ‘Why is Vincent glowing and why does this card back not have cooler art?’ It’s like, that’s not what I’m trying to do. I’m trying to go deep. I’m trying to talk to you. Do you want to come along for the ride because it’s going to be super fun?”

‘Influencer’ Exclusive Cover Reveal: Adam Cesare’s Audible Original Gets Expanded Paperback Release

Published

on

From author of the popular Clown in a Cornfield books comes Adam Cesare’s Influencer, a new horror novel that actually began its life as an Audible Original. But the paperback adaptation of the tale is said to be “new and expanded,” and it’s releasing October 1 Union Square & Co.

Bloody Disgusting has been exclusively provided with the cover reveal for Cesare’s Influencer, which features art by Tomasz Majewski. Check it out below and read on for more.

Cesare tells Bloody Disgusting, “I’m really proud of it. It’s a little bit more hardcore and disturbing than the Clown books, kind of a YA American Psycho/Funny Games/Silence of the Lambs cocktail, not really any of those things, but a tough book to comp out, since the plot is ‘a sociopathic instagram poet thinks he’s the next Charles Manson.’

“It was originally released as an Audible Original where it was read by Isabela Merced and Christopher Briney. This paperback is the same book, essentially, but does feature a few bonus chapters to ensure that any reader who double dips will get a little extra story, some extra scares.”

Influencer, by Bram Stoker Award–winning author Adam Cesare, is a tense and timely psychological thriller told from alternating points of view about a teenage girl who begins to suspect the charismatic new kid may in fact be a murderous psychopath. As more and more of her friends fall under his influence, her suspicions begin to come across like jealousy. But is she right? And if so, how much more dangerous would he be toward someone who has discovered his secret?

A new and expanded paperback adaptation of the Audible Original, Influencer explores the dark side of social media and the cult of personalities that flourish there as the teens navigate their own fears about friendship and popularity, culminating in an epic battle of wills that will leave readers breathless.

You can pre-order your copy of Influencer today.

Here’s some early praise for the upcoming horror novel…

“Sizzling writing and a skin-crawling story make Influencer one of the most addictive horror novels I’ve read. It’s deeply uncomfortable, deeply perceptive, and deliciously fun.”
—Darcy Coates, USA Today bestselling author of The Whispering Dead

“What’s so scary about Influencer is how possible it is—how likely it feels, and just how convincingly real these characters are. I read a lot of scary stuff, but this is the only book for years to worm its way into my dreams and make me finish the book faster, just so I can maybe sleep again.”
—Stephen Graham Jones, New York Times bestselling author of The Only Good Indians

Influencer is a real nail-biter of a thriller! Relatable characters, devious plot twists, and a breakneck pace. Highly recommended!”
—Jonathan Maberry, New York Times bestselling author of Rot & Ruin and Long Past Midnight
