Nicolas Cage takes charge when one of his sons doesn’t make it back by sunset in an exclusive new clip for upcoming creature feature Arcadian. The clock is ticking when the world has been invaded by creatures that hunt at night.

Arcadian arrives in theaters this Friday, April 12, 2024. After the film’s theatrical release, it’s coming to Shudder and AMC+ later this year.

In Arcadian, which looks to take a page out of the Quiet Place playbook, “After a catastrophic event depopulates the world, a father and his two sons must survive their dystopian environment while being threatened by mysterious creatures that emerge at night.”

The creature feature has been rated “R” by the MPA for “Bloody images.”

Ben Brewer (The Trust) directed the film, written by Mike Nilon (Braven).

Jaeden Martell (IT 2017), Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space) and Sadie Soverall (Fate: The Winx Saga) also star in the upcoming Arcadian alongside cinema icon Nicolas Cage.

Ben Brewer (The Trust) directed the film, written by Mike Nilon (Braven). Producers include David Wulf, Braxton Pope, Nicolas Cage, Mike Nilon, Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier.

I reviewed Arcadian for Bloody Disgusting out of SXSW. I wrote, “Playing like a cross between a poignant coming-of-age story and intense survival horror, Arcadian does just enough to set itself apart from similar fare. However, its ultimate appeal and magic lie in the inventive monster designs and the thrilling action set pieces they inspire.”

RLJE’s Mark Ward hypes, “Michael Nilon’s script deftly balances between the riveting thrills of a creature feature and the hopeful heart at the core of Paul’s family, played to perfection by Cage, Martel, and Jenkins.”

In the exclusive clip below, Joseph (Jaeden Martell) returns home late just as the sun is setting, signaling the impending arrival of nightly visitors. Joseph’s dad (Cage) frantically demands to know where his brother, Thomas (Jenkins), is and takes charge accordingly.

Time is of the essence in Arcadian and it’s out this Friday.

Mockbuster documentary

Out today in select theaters and on digital platforms is heartfelt and playful documentary Mockbuster, which sees a director cold call a studio and ask to helm a lost-world dinosaur epic.

Inexplicably, they say yes.

Our exclusive clip below highlights both the comedic nature of this bizarre scenario as well as the pressures of shooting dino feature The Land That Time Forgot in a mere six days, with no real feature experience.

A dino attack scene causes friction on set in this scene.

In the documentary, “A struggling filmmaker’s opportunity collides with chaos and compromise when Sharknado’s notorious studio, The Asylum, invites him to direct a ‘mockbuster.’ With six days, a micro budget, and mounting pressure, Mockbuster is a comedic, behind-the-scenes documentary exploring the balance between low-budget filmmaking and creative ambition.”

More than just an inside look at filmmaking via low-budget film studio The Asylum, it doubles as one man’s pursuit of his dreams to charming, humorous effect.

Mockbuster is a documentary about my own journey, but it’s also a love letter to one of the last grindhouses still functioning in Hollywood. We get to meet the characters and creators of some of the most infamous (and most hated) B-movies of the last few decades. People who make movies purely for profit – no pretension, no artistry, just monsters, C-listers, and chaos. A film that both genre fans and cinephiles can enjoy. But Mockbuster isn’t just about filmmaking, it’s about losing sight of your dreams, and reclaiming them in your own twisted way,” Director Anthony Frith said in a statement.

From Executive Producer and famed documentarian David FarrierMockbuster opens in select theaters and on digital platforms beginning July 10.
