‘Sweet Revenge’ – Schuyler White Is First Person to Officially Play Jason Voorhees in 16 Years! [Exclusive]
Can you believe it’s been 16 YEARS since the last official installment in the Friday the 13th franchise? That would of course be Marcus Nispel’s Friday the 13th back in 2009, which forever immortalized Derek Mears as of the rare few to portray horror icon Jason Voorhees on screen. Nearly twenty years later, Jason is returning to the screen in Sweet Revenge.
Described as a “vignette,” the short-form project is a 13-minute experience that’s headed our way next week from the newly-formed Jason Universe, a relaunch of the Jason Voorhees character from the rights holders. It’s no secret that the franchise has been mired in legal troubles for years now, but the Jason Universe finally allows for the big guy’s official return.
That makes Sweet Revenge the first official Jason Voorhees film project in sixteen years, and Bloody Disgusting has exclusively uncovered the man behind the mask this week.
The man playing Jason Voorhees in Sweet Revenge, which will premiere on the evening of August 13 at both a special live event and on the @JasonUniverse13 YouTube channel?
Bloody Disgusting has confirmed that it’s actor and stuntman Schuyler White who wore the iconic hockey mask in director Mike P. Nelson’s (Silent Night, Deadly Night) vignette!
An 11-time Guinness World Record holder for various fire stunts, Schuyler White is on paper the absolute perfect man for the job, and he’s got a long history in the horror genre already. White previously worked with Mike P. Nelson on the filmmaker’s 2021 reboot of the Wrong Turn franchise, with White also serving as a special effects technician on films including Escape Plan: The Extractors, Queen & Slim, Don’t Breathe 2, No One Gets Out Alive, Beverly Hills Cop: Alex F, and even NEON’s upcoming Chris Stuckmann-directed horror film Shelby Oaks.
As a stunt performer and stunt coordinator, Schuyler White has worked on The Bye Bye Man, Haunt, and V/H/S/85, so he’s certainly no stranger to getting bloody in the horror genre.
Beginning next week with the release of Sweet Revenge, Schuyler White will officially join the prestigious group of actors and stunt performers to officially play Jason Voorhees on screen, which includes names like Ari Lehman, Richard Brooker, Ted White, and of course, Kane Hodder.
On August 13, a select number of Jason fans (21+) will be able to attend the Sweet Revenge premiere party at the Angry Orchard Cider House in upstate NY, alongside cast and crew including Mike P. Nelson, Sweet Revenge lead Ally Ioannides, and Schuyler White.
Be sure to register to attend right now!
If you’re not able to make it, Sweet Revenge will also premiere online August 13. Stay tuned…

‘The Haunting of Pennhurst’ Exclusive Clip Trains Scare Actors For Historic Haunt in Tribeca Doc
The past and present collide in haunting, poignant ways in the genre documentary The Haunting of Pennhurst, which sees a Halloween haunt serve as a reclamation of true historic horrors.
Ahead of its world premiere at the 25th Tribeca Film Festival, we have an exclusive clip that sees scare actors in training for the Halloween season. The catch? This haunt is opening at the historic Pennhurst State School & Hospital site, a facility that caused immense harm to its disabled patients over decades of its operation.
In the documentary, “For over seventy years, Pennhurst State School & Hospital was called a place of care. What happened inside killed over half its population. It closed in 1987, leaving behind unmarked graves and an unresolved history. Today, on those same grounds, disabled performers – many living with the same conditions that once sent people to Pennhurst – put on their makeup, pull on their costumes, and prepare to scare people for a living.
“Through grit, compassion, and buckets of blood, the eclectic performers of the Pennhurst Asylum haunted attraction are wrestling with a space that is at once a lucrative business and a gravesite.”
The upcoming documentary hails from directing trio Nathan Stenberg, Mike Attie, and Katarina Poljak, who explore their socially-relevant subject through archival footage, first-hand accounts, and an immersive verité.
“Pennhurst has haunted us since we first passed through its dragon-tooth gates; the horrors of the institution echo through the site today. We are so grateful to bring this film to the Tribeca Festival, particularly the Escape from Tribeca section, which feels right for a story where past and present bleed together. We hope audiences leave unnerved and asking the same uncomfortable questions we did,” Attie, Stenberg, and Poljak said in a statement.
Watch the clip below that sees disabled and neurodivergent scare actors learning the ropes of a Halloween haunt, reclaiming the site’s grim history in the process.
