‘Betty’s Revenge’ Trailer – ‘V/H/S’ Star Hannah Fierman Is Betty Boop in Indie Slasher [Exclusive]

Published

on

With 1930’s Dizzy Dishes entering the public domain as of this year, the original incarnation of Betty Boop joins the arsenal of iconic characters that can be twisted into a horror movie by enterprising indie filmmakers.

We’ve previously reported that Boop and Shiver Me Timbers 2 are on their way, and now Betty’s Revenge is joining the fray.

This one stands out thanks to the inspired casting of V/H/S icon Hannah Fierman as the batty Betty Boop. Check out our exclusive trailer and images below.

The movie follows three college seniors who venture to the abandoned Dizzy Dishes cabaret club while researching its fiery past. They encounter the former owner, Betty — who claims to be half woman, half “something else.”

Once the friends get their hands on Betty’s journal of secrets, it’s a race against time as she begins hunting them with the goal of leaving behind a story of trauma that can become the next great bedtime story.

Emma Claire Dykes, Samuel J. Bennett, and Faith McKinstry star alongside Fierman.

Brett Bentman — who’s also helming a pair of Aladdin horror movies — writes and directs.

“We started talking about this story a long, long time ago, but as with any of these public domain pieces, there are rules that need to be followed,” Bentman tells Bloody Disgusting. “We wanted to be true and accurate to the subject that was available — not just the one everyone associates with the classic cartoon, as we knew that was off limits. So we made Betty a tragic figure that has real motivation, not just your typical angry cartoon character.”

Bentman produces with Tiffany McDonald for B22 Films. Stuart Alson and Nicole Holland serve as executive producers.

Betty’s Revenge is coming soon from ITN Distribution, who helped popularize the public domain exploitation trend with Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.

A hospital stay grows more nerve-frazzling when memory loss distorts reality in our exclusive clip from This Tempting Madness, inspired by a true story.

The mind-bending psychological thriller will be released in select theaters and on demand on June 12 via Vertical.

Simone Ashley (“Bridgerton”) stars as Mia, who awakens from a coma, grievously injured, her memory fractured. As she puts the pieces of her past together, she starts to question her own actions and her perception of reality.

In This Tempting Madness, “Mia awakens from a coma grievously injured, her memory fractured. As she puts the pieces of her past together, she starts to question her own actions, and her perception of reality.”

Jennifer E. Montgomery makes her feature directorial debut from a script she co-wrote with director of photography Andrew Davis, inspired by Montgomery’s first-hand experience with tragedy involving her best friend.

“Months before the incident, there were signals that her world was unraveling,” says Montgomery. “I could feel the pressure building, though I didn’t know what form it would take. I never could have known what violence would come, and I certainly never imagined making a film about it.”

Austin Stowell (“NCIS: Origins”), Suraj Sharma (Happy Death Day 2U), Mojean Aria (Reminiscence), Amol Shah (“For All Mankind”), and Zenobia Shroff (“Ms. Marvel”) round out the cast.

Smoke Jumper Films and Mango Monster Productions produce in association with Catchlight Studios (HereticThe Blackening).

This Tempting Madness is rated R for “language, violence/bloody images, and brief sexuality.”
