‘What’s Wrong, Wendy?’ Trailer – Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Queer Vampire Pop-Horror [Exclusive]

Published

There simply aren’t enough Valentine’s Day horror movies out there, which is why we’re excited to celebrate today with an exclusive trailer for What’s Wrong, Wendy?

The indie queer vampire movie is described as Jennifer’s Body meets Ginger Snaps by way of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”

Wendy Day is just an ordinary pizza girl hopelessly stuck on red-headed heartbreaker Victoria Sinclair. But when their high-school situationship reignites on Valentine’s Day, Wendy wakes up changed — faster, stronger, and with a penchant for violence. She’s not the girl Victoria left behind.

Hoping to save Wendy, Victoria teams up with a pair of unlikely allies: Arlo, a local occult expert, and Sam, a police officer with a dark past. Can they band together with one goal or will they fall apart when it matters most?

Spooky Madison, Alexandra Boulas, Tova Weinberger, Anthony Dain, Jace Carson, Elijah Payne, Dana Weddle, Leah Voysey (Terrifier 2), and Andrew J. Ferchland (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) star.

Madison co-directs with Hell House LLC II: The Abaddon Hotel actress Dusty Austen from a script by Madison. Madison’s FinalGhoul Films and Austen’s StreetRat Studios produce alongside Athena Murzda.

“The relationship between Wendy and Victoria absolutely felt real in a way that I think is unique to queer stories being written and performed by queer performers,” said Boulas. “I grew up in a time where representation was extremely limited. If I had seen a film like this when I was a closeted teenage pageant queen, I think it might not have taken me as long to accept myself.”

“We need high concept queer stories like this,” added Austen. “What’s Wrong, Wendy? is such a fun pop-horror film. I think it will appeal to the masses but it’s made for the queer audiences like us that grew up on ‘Buffy,’ Ginger Snaps, and Jennifer’s Body.”

“This movie is for people who love horror with a point of view,” Voysey commented. “Blood, guts, and gore can be necessary for a horror film — especially a vampire film — but when the gore elements overshadow the story, the film can feel one note. What’s Wrong, Wendy? is a layered horror film with romance, fantasy, deep friendships, and well-rounded character arcs.”

Currently in post-production, What’s Wrong, Wendy? will premiere at its primary filming location, Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus, OH in September before hitting the festival circuit.

A hospital stay grows more nerve-frazzling when memory loss distorts reality in our exclusive clip from This Tempting Madness, inspired by a true story.

The mind-bending psychological thriller will be released in select theaters and on demand on June 12 via Vertical.

Simone Ashley (“Bridgerton”) stars as Mia, who awakens from a coma, grievously injured, her memory fractured. As she puts the pieces of her past together, she starts to question her own actions and her perception of reality.

In This Tempting Madness, “Mia awakens from a coma grievously injured, her memory fractured. As she puts the pieces of her past together, she starts to question her own actions, and her perception of reality.”

Jennifer E. Montgomery makes her feature directorial debut from a script she co-wrote with director of photography Andrew Davis, inspired by Montgomery’s first-hand experience with tragedy involving her best friend.

“Months before the incident, there were signals that her world was unraveling,” says Montgomery. “I could feel the pressure building, though I didn’t know what form it would take. I never could have known what violence would come, and I certainly never imagined making a film about it.”

Austin Stowell (“NCIS: Origins”), Suraj Sharma (Happy Death Day 2U), Mojean Aria (Reminiscence), Amol Shah (“For All Mankind”), and Zenobia Shroff (“Ms. Marvel”) round out the cast.

Smoke Jumper Films and Mango Monster Productions produce in association with Catchlight Studios (HereticThe Blackening).

This Tempting Madness is rated R for “language, violence/bloody images, and brief sexuality.”
