The DVD format gets its due in the upcoming retro horror movie Dead Media when a haunted disc unleashes its monsters.
“You may be done with the DVD, but it’s not done with you,” the film’s poster below cheekily warns.
Dead Media arrives in theaters on July 16 before heading to TVOD on July 28, from Antenna Releasing.
In the horror movie, “When a troubled young woman wants to relax by streaming an old horror movie, her Gen X uncle demands they watch it on DVD instead. But: the disc is haunted, plunging them into a movie night that won’t die.“
It’s described as “A thrilling celebration of 80’s adventure horror, Dead Media blends heart, horror, and hijinks into a tale of family and learning how to move forward.“
Dead Media was written, directed, edited, and produced by Joseph Scrimshaw. The filmmaker has previously written for Adult Swim’s Tigtone and RiffTrax’s Samurai Cop.
The cast includes:
- Sammi-Jack Martincak as “Maggie”
- Sam Landman as “Uncle Heppy Sloke”
- James Urbaniak as “Dr. Sven Rendall/Guy Leopold”
- Jessica Fenton as “Brenda”
- Anna Sundberg as “Rita Nast”
Suitable Flesh director Joe Lynch (Buzzkill) executive produces. Matthias Schubert (Satanic Hispanics) handles cinematography.
