Bleecker Street’s Victorian Psycho is shifting out of a very crowded September for more suitable holiday slaygrounds; get ready to feast on Winifred Notty’s carnage just in time for Thanksgiving.
Victorian Psycho is now set to release in theaters on lucky Friday, November 13, moving from its initial September 25 date.
It’s a much more fitting slot for this psychological thriller, in which meals, dining, and holidays play a prominent role.
Maika Monroe stars as eccentric governess Winifred Notty, who arrives at a remote gothic manor where strange happenings stir suspicion that she’s not what she seems.
Thomasin McKenzie (Last Night in Soho), Jason Isaacs (Honey Bunch), Ruth Wilson, Amy De Bruhn, and “Hamnet” breakout Jacobi Jupe also star.
Zachary Wigon (Sanctuary) directed the film from a script by author Virginia Feito (Mrs. March), based on her novel of the same name. Victorian Psycho is produced by Dan Kagan (Longlegs) and Sebastien Raybaud (Greenland: Migration).
Wigon previously said of his lead, “Maika’s intense screen presence has resonated with me over and over again throughout her history of complex performances. I’m absolutely thrilled for her to bring her unique style of psychological portraiture to the fascinatingly bizarre Winifred Notty.”
Monroe turns in another unforgettable performance, this time as an unhinged psychopath unleashed upon a stuffy society. I wrote in my review for Bloody Disgusting, “Carnage becomes pretty dang delightful in Maika Monroe’s capable hands. Victorian Psycho operates on familiar slay grounds, but it’s an absolute blast thanks to its zany style and deranged sense of fun.”
Victorian Psycho is rated ‘R’ for “strong bloody violence and brief sexual material.”
