‘Martyrs’ Remake to Torture Viewers When?
Anchor Bay has set a January 22, 2016 limited theatrical and Digital HD release of Martyrs, which Kalyn reviewed, stating that it “fails to lack the same punch as the original.” It will then arrive on VOD, DVD and Blu-ray February 2, 2016.
The Goetz Brothers (Scenic Route) directed the U.S. version of Pascal Laugier’s 2009 French horror film that challenged religion, and played a cathartic role in his real life loss.
Bailey Noble, who played Adilyn Bellefleur on “True Blood”, toplines with “Pretty Little Liars” star Troian Bellisario. Kate Burton (Stay, Big Trouble in Little China) and Blake Robbins (Rubber) round out the cast.
Mark L. Smith (Vacancy, The Hole, The Revenant) penned the screenplay: “In ‘Martyrs’ 10-year-old Lucie flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from Anna, a girl her own age. Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that tortured her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare – if they cannot escape, a martyr’s fate awaits them…”
The Last Exorcism‘s Daniel Stamm was once attached to direct and called the screenplay “spellbinding.”
After releasing in theaters last month, NEON announced today that horror romance Leviticus will arrive on digital platforms to rent or own beginning July 28, followed by a Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Combo and DVD release on September 8, 2026.
Leviticus marks the feature debut by writer/director Adrian Chiarella.
Joe Bird (Talk to Me) and Stacy Clausen play star-crossed teenage boys who must escape a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most — each other.
Mia Wasikowska (Crimson Peak), Jeremy Blewitt, Ewen Leslie (The Nightingale), and Davida McKenzie (Silent Night) round out the cast of horror movie Leviticus.
“Leviticus is a strong debut with an incisive voice at the helm,” I wrote in my review out of Sundance. “We care deeply about Naim and Ryan’s survival, making Leviticus a tense, atmospheric, and claustrophobic vision of young love in a hateful world.”

The physical media release comes packed with exclusive bonus features, the home entertainment release includes a feature commentary with Adrian Chiarella, interviews with Chiarella, Stacy Clausen, and Joe Bird, an exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette, and the official trailer.
