Each week here at Bloody Disgusting we like to highlight some of the new Blu-ray releases hitting shelves across the world. Please note that this isn’t every release for the week, just a few of the ones that jumped out at us.

Lots and lots and lots of stuff out this week. A bunch of DC Blu-ray releases, plus Clown, The Nice Guys and more. Impressive week with lots to choose from.

US Releases

The Huntsman: Winter’s War (Universal, Region Free)

Synopsis:
As two evil sisters prepare to conquer the land; two renegades – Eric the Huntsmen – who previously aided Snow White in defeating Ravenna, and his forbidden lover, Sara set out to stop them.

Psycho IV: The Beginning (Scream Factory, Region A)

Synopsis:
A seemingly rehabilitated Norman Bates is drawn to a late night radio show where the host encourages him to share his views on the topic of matricide – the murder of a mother by her own child. Reliving his childhood, Norman recounts his trials as a young boy living with his widowed schizophrenic mother. These haunting memories are more than just disturbing visions of the past; they threaten to rekindle his killing urge in this spine-tingling thriller.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: The Complete First Season (Warner Bros, Region A)

Synopsis:
Time Master Rip Hunter travels back in time to the present day where he brings together a team of heroes and villains in an attempt to prevent Vandal Savage from destroying the world and time itself.

The Walking Dead: The Complete Sixth Season (Starz/Anchor Bay, Region A)

Synopsis:
The Walking Dead tells the story of the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse and follows a small group of survivors traveling across the United States in search of a new home away from the hordes of zombies. The group is led by Rick Grimes, who was a police officer in the old world. As their situation grows more and more grim, the group’s desperation to survive pushes them to do almost anything to stay alive.

Ash Vs Evil Dead: The Compelte First Season (Starz/Anchor Bay, Region A)

Synopsis:
Ash has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead until a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind and Ash becomes mankind’s only hope.

The Nice Guys (Warner Bros, Region A)

Synopsis:
A private eye and an enforcer-for-hire investigate the death of a porn star in 1970s Los Angeles and uncover a conspiracy.

Midnight Run (Shout Select, Region A)

Synopsis:
Jack Walsh (Robert De Niro) is a tough ex-cop turned bounty hunter. Jonathan “The Duke” Mardukas (Charles Grodin) is a sensitive accountant who embezzled $15 million from the Mob, gave it to charity and then jumped bail. Jack’s in for a cool $100,000 if he can deliver The Duke from New York to L.A. on time. And alive. Sounds like just another Midnight Run (a piece of cake in bounty hunter slang), but it turns into a cross-country chase. The FBI is after The Duke to testify – the Mob is after him for revenge – and Walsh is after him to just shut up. If someone else doesn’t do the job, the two unlikely partners may end up killing each other.

Clown (Starz/Anchor Bay, Region A)

Synopsis:
A loving father finds a clown suit for his son’s birthday party, only to realize the suit is part of an evil curse that turns its wearer into a killer.

The Strain: The Complete Second Season (Fox, Region A)

Synopsis:
Dr. Ephraim “Eph” Goodweather, the gifted head of the Center for Disease Control’s canary team in New York City, and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious, rapidly-spreading virus reminiscent of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, an enigmatic Holocaust survivor, and an assembly of regular people wage a desperate war for the fate of humanity itself.

Chandu the Magician (Kino Lorber, Region A)

Synopsis:
Megalomaniac and would-be world dominator Roxor has kidnaped Robert Regent, along with his death ray invention, in hopes of using it to degenerate humanity into mindless brutes, leaving himself as Earth’s supreme intelligence. Faced with revealing the machine’s secrets or allowing his family to die a horrible death at the hands of Roxor, Regent’s only hope lies with the intervention of his brother-in-law, the be-turbaned yogi and magician Chandu, who has the power to make men see what is not there ‘even unto a gathering of twelve times twelve’…

Modesty Blaise (Kino Lorber, Region A)

Synopsis:
Her entire appearance changes in a finger snap. She thrashes villains without missing a spiked-heeled step. Welcome to the mad, mod world sexy, stylish intrigue as British comic strip character Modesty Blaise comes to life in this outrageous spy spoof. Hired by the government to prevent a diamond heist, Modesty (Monica Vitti) recruits her wily sidekick Willie Garvin (Terence Stamp) to help her battle crafty, colorful foes on the secluded island of a suave mastermind thief (Dirk Bogarde). Grooving with mile-high hairdos and swinging, psychedelic wall patterns, Modesty Blaise is campy entertainment at its best!

City on Fire (Scorpion Releasing, Region A)

Synopsis:
A pyromaniac, ex-employee of a city oil refinery creates an explosion at the facility which starts a chain-reaction of fires that engulf the entire city.

3 Bad Men (Kino Lorber, Region A)

Synopsis:
Three outlaws come to the aid of a young girl after her father is killed.

Lucifer: The Complete First Season (Warner Bros, Region A)

Synopsis:
Satan takes up residence in Los Angeles.

The Bloodstained Butterfly (Arrow, Region A)

Synopsis:
A girl is murdered in a park. The man is tried and convicted for the crime but afterwards the killings continue.

Narcos: Season One (Lionsgate, Region A)

Synopsis:
A chronicled look at the criminal exploits of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar.

Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox/Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths (Warner Bros, Region A)

The Flashpoint Paradox
The Flash finds himself in a war torn alternate timeline and teams up with alternate versions of his fellow heroes to return home and restore the timeline.

Crisis on Two Earths
A good version of Lex Luthor from a parallel Earth comes to the Justice League’s dimension for help to fight their evil counterparts.

Justice League: Doom/Justice League: War (Warner Bros, Region A)

Doom
When Vandal Savage discovers Batman’s secret contingency plan to defeat the Justice League should any of them go rogue, he steals it, forms his own army of supervillains, and begins taking out the Justice League one by one.

War
Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and other superheroes join forces to save Earth from Darkseid.

Batman: Gotham Knight/Year One (Warner Bros, Region A)

Gotham Knight
Batman: Gotham Knight is a fresh and exciting new entry into the Batman mythos, spinning out of a 40-year history in animation including the Emmy-winning Batman: The Animated Series, widely considered a pivotal moment in American animation. A cross section of distinguished creators, award winning producers, and acclaimed writers weave six interlocking stories that reveal Bruce Wayne’s journey to Dark Knight, each with stylish art from some of the world’s most revered animation visionaries.

Year One
Batman’s first year as the dark knight crime-fighter.

The Duel (Lionsgate, Region A)

Synopsis:
A Texas Ranger investigates a series of unexplained deaths in a town called Helena.

The Spiders (Kino Lorber, Region A)

Synopsis:
Kay Hoog finds a message that indicates that some Incas are still alive, but the secret organisation “Die Spinnen” wants the Incas’ gold….

 

 

UK Releases

Cry of the City (BFI, Region B)

Synopsis:
Two childhood best friends take divergent paths; one becomes a cop, and the other a cop-killer. The killer must grapple with confessing to a murder he did not commit in order to save his girlfriend from being framed for the crime.

Jaws 2/Jaws 3-D/Jaws: The Revenge (Universal, Region B)

Jaws 2
Another giant Great White Shark terrorizes beach goers in this sequel to Steven Spielberg’s summer blockbuster.

Jaws 3-D
Second sequel to Steven Spielberg’s classic with another giant Great White shark wreaking havoc on an aquatic amusement park in Florida after following her newly born offspring inside and getting trapped. Originally filmed and released in 3D.

Jaws: The Revenge
Ellen Brody still lives in the island resort town of Amity, and her sons Sean and Michael don’t work at Sea World anymore, and some time ago, Ellen’s husband Martin Brody died of a heart attack that happened because he was afraid of sharks. Sean is now a deputy in Amity. One night, during the Christmas season, Sean is called to untangle a log from a buoy, and when Sean goes to the buoy, he’s killed by a great white shark.

Synopsis:

Stalker (Artificial Eye, Region B)

Synopsis:
Sci-fi drama from Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky, about two men who are led to their innermost dreams in a strange place once inhabited by aliens. In Tarkovsky’s stunningly filmed allegorical fantasy, a Stalker (Aleksandr Kaidanovsky) leads a Writer (Anatoli Solonitsyn) and a Professor (Nikolai Grinko) through an industrial wasteland called the Zone, in search of a room where Truth is contained.

Stand By Me (Zavvi Steelbook, Region B)

Synopsis:
After the death of a friend, a writer recounts a boyhood journey to find a body of a missing boy.

Ghoulies 1 & 2 (Zavvi Steelbook, Region B)

Ghoulies
Upon returning to his family’s abandoned mansion, Jonathan realizes he has inherited his father’s powers of sorcery, which he uses to unwittingly unleash a handful of demons known as The GHOULIES! The tiny terrors run amok, getting into mischief and killing their unfortunate hosts before Jonathan summons the strength to defeat them…

Ghoulies 2
The operators of Satan’s Den, a traveling spook house, find out that they have picked up some unlikely hitchhikers when The GHOULIES begin terrorizing the carnival goers at their most recent stop! The creatures are mad after an attempt to kill them, so the beasties go on a rampage through the fairgrounds, ultimately leading to an explosive conclusion…!

Gateway Horror Classic ‘The Gate’ Returns to Life With Blu-ray SteelBook in May

One of my personal favorite horror movies of all time, 1987’s gateway horror classic The Gate is opening back up on May 14 with a brand new Blu-ray SteelBook release from Lionsgate!

The new release will feature fresh SteelBook artwork from Vance Kelly, seen below.
