New to Blu-ray

Each week here at Bloody Disgusting we like to highlight some of the new Blu-ray releases hitting shelves across the world. Please note that this isn’t every release for the week, just a few of the ones that jumped out at us.

We have arrived at the last batch of releases before Halloween and it’s a good batch! Vinegar Syndrome is having themselves a week with a couple of David DeCoteau films hitting Blu-ray along with Deathrow Gameshow and Hobgoblins. Over in the UK our friends at 88 Films are giving Frogs the special treatment and newcomer Powerhouse Films is hitting the market with releases of Body Double and Christine. The big release for me this week though, that has to be Umbrella Entertainment’s release of Brian Trenchard-Smith’s The Man from Hong Kong! This release is absolutely loaded and should be high on everyone’s wish list!

Murder Weapon/Deadly Embrace (Vinegar Syndrome, Region Free)

Murder Weapon

Deadly Embrace
A beautiful but horny and neglected Beverly Hills wife hires a hot young stud as a gardener. It eventually gets through to her husband that some hanky-panky may possibly be going on, and he begins to spy on her. Complications, and murder, ensue.

The Executioner (Criterion, Region A)

Synopsis:
This masterpiece of black humor, beloved in Spain but too little seen elsewhere, threads a scathing critique of Franco-era values through a macabre farce about an undertaker who marries an executioner’s daughter and reluctantly takes over her father’s job so the family can keep their government-allotted apartment. As caustic today as it was in 1963, this early collaboration between Luis García Berlanga and his longtime screenwriter Rafael Azcona is an unerring depiction of what Berlanga called “the invisible traps that society sets up for us.” A furiously funny personal attack on capital punishment, The Executioner escaped the state censors who sought to suppress it, and today is regarded as one of the greatest Spanish films of all time.

Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie (Discotek Media, Region A)

Synopsis:
Bison, the ruthless leader of the international terrorist organization Shadowlaw, has been desperately searching for the greatest fighter on the planet for years. He finds it in Ryu, a young wanderer who never stays in one place long enough for Bison to find him. He does, however, get a fix on Ken Masters, an American martial arts champion who studied with Ryu as a child under the same master. Meanwhile, Major Guile of the United States Army is forced to team up with Chun Li from China in hopes of apprehending Bison and putting a stop to his international ring of crime.

Manhattan Baby (Blue Underground, Region A)

Synopsis:
An archaeologist opens an Egyptian tomb and accidentally releases an evil spirit. His young daughter becomes possessed by the freed entity and, upon arrival back in New York, the gory murders begin…

Nightmare Sisters (Vinegar Syndrome, Region Free)

Synopsis:
Melody, Marci, and Mickey are three geeky college girls who can’t get a date. One night, they invite some geeky college guys over and have a seance that results in the girls becoming possessed and turning into sex starved vamps. Will the geek hero guys be able to stop the horrible possession?

Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror (Severin, Region A)

Synopsis:
A professor opens a crypt and reanimates rotten zombies. The zombies attack a jet-set-group which is celebrating a party in a villa nearby.

Synopsis:
A young security guard must track down diminutive aliens who kill people even as they make their fantasies come true.
