Each week here at Bloody Disgusting we like to highlight some of the new Blu-ray releases hitting shelves across the world. Please note that this isn’t every release for the week, just a few of the ones that jumped out at us.

This is a stellar week of releases for all your Blu-ray collectors out there. Well Go USA’s Phantasm collection has arrived and by all accounts it’s awesome. Not to let Well Go USA have all the boxset releases, Arrow Video is getting in on the action with boxsets of the Dead or Alive trilogy and the House films. And of course there’s Monster Trucks. Rad, rad week.

US Releases

The Crucible (Kino Lorber, Region A)

Synopsis:
The setting is 17th century Salem, Massachusetts. A group of teenage girls meets in the woods at midnight for a secret love-conjuring ceremony. But instead of love, Abigail Williams wishes for the death of her former lover’s wife. When the ceremony is witnessed by the town minister, the girls are accused of witchcraft. Soon the entire village is consumed by hysteria, and innocent victims are put on trial, leading to a devastating climax!

Dead or Alive Trilogy (Arrow, Region A)

Dead or Alive
In Tokyo’s crime ridden Shinjuku district, emotionally and financially bankrupt Detective Jojima plays referee in a gangland turf war pitting the Japanese Yakuza Mafia against a bloodthirsty band of Chinese immigrant gangsters. But Jojima’s obligation to his terminally ill daughter and ruthless Chinese mobster Ryuichi’s sentimental devotion to his ersatz family of misfit assassins threatens to add their own corpses to the landslide of fresh bodies littering Tokyo.

Dead or Alive 2
Two hitmen meet when they are hired to kill the same person, and they realize they were childhood friends. They decide to start killing together, this time on the side of good.

Dead or Alive: Final
The ace cop of a totalitarian police force and a drifting android play their parts in a post-apocalyptic society. They are destined to fight. Their encounter will change them forever.

House: Two Stores (Arrow, Region A)

House
Roger Cobb is a Vietnam vet whose career as a horror novelist has taken a turn for the worse when his son Jimmy mysteriously disappears while visiting his aunt’s house. Roger’s search for Jimmy destroys his marriage and his writing career. The sudden death of his aunt brings Roger back to the house where his nightmares began. The evil zombies in the house force Roger to endure a harrowing journey into his past.

House II: The Second Story
The new owner of a sinister house gets involved with reanimated corpses and demons searching for an ancient Aztec skull with magic powers.

The Phantasm Collection (Well Go USA, Region A)

Phantasm
Mike, a young teenage boy who has just lost his parents, is afraid to lose his brother. This fear causes him to follow his brother to a funeral, where Mike witnesses the Tall Man lift a coffin on his own. Mike decides to investigate and discovers a horrible world where the Tall Man, along with his flying spheres, shrink the to half their normal size and reanimate them as slaves. It is then up to Mike, his brother, and Reggie, the ice cream man, to stop the Tall man…

Phantasm II
Mike is released from psychiatry, when he agrees with the doctors that the terrible happenings in his past were just in his imagination. But once he’s free, he contacts Redge and they team up to hunt down and eliminate the “Tall Man”, who plunders the graveyards and abducts the sleeping with help of his terrible gnomes. A beautiful strange girl starts to appear in Mike’s dreams. He assumes she’s in danger and needs their help – will they find her before the Tall Man can do her any harm…?

Phantasm III: Lord of the Dead
The Tall Man, that imposing menace from Morningside Mortuary, is back and once again haunting the thoughts of the now-adult Mike and his friend, ex-Ice Cream vendor Reggie. The two continue their hunt for the mysterious figure and in his path of destruction encounter a variety of dangerous situations, friends and enemies. They also must contend with the resurrected dead plus a growing number of the infamous and deadly silver spheres which aid the Tall Man as he sets his sights on indoctrinating Mike and finishing the fight begun so many years ago…

Phantasm IV: Oblivion
Taking off immediately where the last one ended, in this episode Mike travels across dimensions and time fleeing from the Tall Man, at the same time he tries to find the origins of his enemy, and what really happened the night that his brother died. Meanwhile, Reggie (accompanied by a beauty he picked up on the road) battles the spheres and the undead in a quest to find Mike before the Tall Man can complete his transformation…

Phantasm V: Ravager
After battling with the Tall Man in Phantasm: Oblivion, a battered Reggie wanders through the desert in search of his missing friend, Mike. After recovering his 1971 Hemi ‘Cuda, Reggie is targeted by two of the Tall Man’s Sentinel Spheres and destroys them. He awakens suddenly to find himself sitting in a wheelchair pushed by none other than the elusive Mike! Although overjoyed by their reunion, Reggie is in this alternate dimension an aged and weary old patient in a psychiatric ward. And only he remembers their battled and bloodied past with the Tall Man. Reggie must travel between dimensions and discern what is reality in order to confront the mysteries at the heart of a decades-long struggle against evil. He is met with new and familiar faces along the way, and an epic showdown on the Tall Man’s home world awaits!

Cathy’s Curse (Severin Films, Region A)

Synopsis:
After a terrible car accident twenty years ago killed his father and sister, a man returns to his family home with his wife and daughter. The daughter takes up residence in her deceased aunt’s room and, after finding some of her possessions, becomes possessed by her spirit. Soon strange happenings and mysterious deaths begin to occur in the household as the possessed girl lashes out at those around her.

Lurking Fear (Full Moon, Region A)

Synopsis:
JOHN MARTENSE (Blake Bailey) has just been released from prison after serving five years for a crime he didn’t commit. John wants to stay as far away from the wrong side of the law as he can … but family ties won’t let him. John gets a message to see SPECS (Vincent Schiavelli), an old friend and undertaker with a taste for larceny. Specs gives John a map of a cemetery where a corpse stuffed with a half a million dollars has been buried. John’s father stole the money with his psychotic partner BENNETT (Jon Finch) but hid the body, leaving it as a family legacy for his son to dig up. John reluctantly takes off for Leffertt’s Corners, a small town with a terrible secret. For years the Corners have been torn apart – the people devoured by a race of cannibalistic genetic freaks living in the tunnels below the cemetery. Thunderstorms bring the creatures out – to feed. John finds the cemetery next to an old church. He barely sets foot in the graveyard when he’s stopped by CATHRYN (Ashley Rae Lauren), a beautiful girl with a .45 automatic in her hand. Cathryn’s laced the cemetery with dynamite and armed herself to destroy the creatures’ nest once and for all…and tonight John’s in the way. Cathryn forces John into the church where DR. HAGGIS (Jeffrey Combs), FATHER POOLE (Paul Mantee) and BETH (Luana Stoica) ready themselves for bloody battle with the monsters. As a storm approaches, and Cathryn is about to blow up the nest, Bennett arrives with his goons to take the group hostage and reclaim the buried money. Can the two groups band together and overcome “The Lurking Fear” … or will they be the next victims?

Chupacabra Territory (Maltauro Entertainment, Region A)

Synopsis:
Four friends hike into the Pinewood Forest to find evidence of the Chupacabra, an ancient creature believed to be responsible for the disappearance of four experienced hikers a year earlier. As they journey deeper into the forest, their innocent search uncovers more than they had ever hoped for, and with it a darkness that threatens to consume their very existence.  One by one they are hunted down, their survival tested, their lives hanging in the balance of fear, friendship, disbelief and horror.

36 Hours (Warner Archive, Region A)

Synopsis:
Germans kidnap an American major and try to convince him that World War II is over, so that they can get details about the Allied invasion of Europe out of him.

Monster Trucks (Paramount Pictures, Region A)

Synopsis:
Looking for any way to get away from the life and town he was born into, Tripp, a high school senior, builds a Monster Truck from bits and pieces of scrapped cars. After an accident at a nearby oil-drilling site displaces a strange and subterranean creature with a taste and a talent for speed, Tripp may have just found the key to getting out of town and a most unlikely friend.

Dark Waters (Severin Films, Region A)

Synopsis:
A girl travels to an island, after the death of her father, to find out why the father funded a monestary on the island.

The Bye Bye Man (Universal, Region A)

Synopsis:
When three college students move into an old house off campus, they unwittingly unleash a supernatural entity known as The Bye Bye Man, who comes to prey upon them once they discover his name. The friends must try to save each other, all the while keeping The Bye Bye Man’s existence a secret to save others from the same deadly fate.

Never Too Young to Die (Shout Factory, Region A)

Synopsis:
A secret agent is murdered, and his son–a high school gymnast–teams up with a spy to catch the man who killed him.

Demented (Scream Factory, Region A)

Synopsis:
A woman is gang-raped in a horse’s stable, and even though the rapists are caught and imprisoned, she is harassed many moons later by ghastly visions of her tormentors, while her husband philanders and every little thing frightens her out of her wits.

Django, Prepare a Coffin (Arrow, Region A)

Synopsis:
A mysterious gunfighter named Django is employed by a local crooked political boss as a hangman to execute innocent locals framed by the boss, who wants their land. What the boss doesn’t know is that Django isn’t hanging the men at all, just making it look like he is, and using the men he saves from the gallows to build up his own “gang” in order to take revenge on the boss, who, with Django’s former best friend, caused the death of his wife years before.

The Vampire (Scream Factory, Region A)

Synopsis:
The late Dr. Campbell was experimenting with vampire bat blood just before his death. Fellow doctor Beecher finds a bottle of pills among Dr. Campbell’s effects and takes them home. Dr. Beecher’s daughter accidentally substitutes the vampire blood pills for her father’s migraine tablets. The kindly Dr. Beecher starts having blackouts, changing into a bloodthirsty monster by night…

Sword Master (Well Go USA, Region A)

Synopsis:
Hong Kong cinema giants Derek Yee and Tsui Hark join forces in this 3D martial arts epic, about an elite swordsman who is haunted by his skill, and a challenger who aims to take his place at all costs.

Creepozoids (Full Moon, Region A)

Synopsis:
The year is 1998, six years after the nuke wars reduced the world to rubble and a few bands of wandering survivors. One of these groups stumbles into an abandoned government research facility, where they were working on making the body capable of creating its own amino acids, thus obviating the need for food. They are then attacked by one of the leftover experiments and begin experiencing an attrition problem.

The Other Hell (Severin Films, Region A)

Synopsis:
A priest investagates paranormal activity at a nuns’ convent where a deep, dark secret is about to resurface in the guise of murder! Could the devil be behind this, or is that just what Mother Superior wants everyone to believe…?

UK Releases

Ironmaster (88 Films, Region B)

Synopsis:
A tale that takes place at the dawn of history. The movie tells the story of a tribe that discovers how to fashion weapons out of iron and use them for their own survival. However, the creation of iron also causes the tribe to battle for possession of the new weapons.

Caltiki the Immortal Monster (Arrow, Region B)

Synopsis:
A team of archaeologists led by Dr John Fielding descends on the ruins of an ancient Mayan city to investigate the mysterious disappearance of its inhabitants. However, the luckless explorers get more than they bargained for when their investigation of a sacrificial pool awakens the monster that dwells beneath its waters – the fearsome and malevolent god, Caltiki.

2019: After the Fall of New York (88 Films, Region B)

Synopsis:
After a nuclear war, society breaks down into two groups, the evil Euraks and the rebel Federation. A mercenary named Parsifal is hired by the Federation to infiltrate New York City, which is controlled by the Euraks, to rescue the only fertile woman left on Earth.

Bird on a Wire (Fabulous Films, Region B)

Synopsis:
Hiding under the FBI Witness Protection Program, Rick Jarmin (Mel Gibson) gets nervous when old flame Marianne Graves (Goldie Hawn) recognizes him. But before he can assume a new identity, the man he put in jail (David Carradine) is released and comes to pay his respects. Rick and Marianne find themselves thrown together on a cross-country scramble, barely evading the gangsters, police and an amorous veterinarian (Joan Severance).

Arlington Road (Fabulous Films, Region B)

Synopsis:
Widowed when his FBI agent wife is killed by a right-wing group, college professor Michael Faraday becomes obsessed with the culture of these groups, especially when his new neighbors, the all-American Oliver and Cheryl Lang, start acting suspiciously.

‘Mute Witness’ – Watch the Trailer for Arrow Video’s 4K Restoration of the 1995 Horror Movie [Exclusive]

The 1995 horror movie Mute Witness has found a whole new audience here in 2024, with Shudder finally bringing the cat-and-mouse thriller to streaming earlier this month.

Additionally, Arrow Video is bringing Mute Witness to 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray for the very first time on June 11, and we’ve scored the trailer for their brand new restoration.

In the film, Billy Hughes (Marina Zudina) is a mute special effects artist working on a low budget American slasher movie being shot in Russia.
