No, this isn’t the one with Sam Raimi in it.
The ’80s may be the decade most synonymous with the slasher film, but the sub-genre truly began to take shape in the ’70s. Both Black Christmas and then Halloween undoubtedly paved the way for the slasher movement… but you’ve probably never seen another slasher film that was made between the two.
Garagehouse Pictures, a company that “specializes in releasing rare, previously unseen or obscure oddities on Blu-ray and DVD,” has just unearthed proto-slasher The Intruder, which was made in 1975 but never actually released in theaters or on home video!
Never distributed theatrically due to disagreements among the distributors, the only 35mm print of the film disappeared before it could debut on the home video market. Since the film’s elements were later found to be destroyed, it seemed this modest little chiller would never be seen or heard of.
Directed by Chris Robinson, the long lost film has been painstakingly restored in high-def from a newly-discovered 35mm film print… the only one in existence.
The legendary Mickey Rooney, Yvonne De Carlo (“The Munsters”) and Ted Cassidy (“The Addams Family”) star in a story of greed, murder and irrational madness…
The lust for gold brings eleven visitors to a remote island retreat, but an unseen, seemingly unstoppable evil follows to stalk them one by one. The bodies don’t stop dropping until the final shattering conclusion. Who – or what – is the intruder? One thing is for certain: it will not stop until it kills them all.
Bonus features for the all-region release include:
- Audio commentary with Chris Robinson
- Archival interview with Chris Robinson
- Liner notes
- Garagehouse Pictures trailers
Look for this one on August 1st!
