Each week here at Bloody Disgusting we like to highlight some of the new Blu-ray releases hitting shelves across the world. Please note that this isn’t every release for the week, just a few of the ones that jumped out at us.

Fun, fun, fun week of releases! We’ve got Species from Scream Factory, which is a super enjoyable slice of B-movie cinema from the 90’s, Star Crystal and Star Slammer from Kino Lorber and Pulse from Arrow Video leading the way for US releases. Jumping over to the UK and we’ve got some good stuff including Stormy Monday from Arrow and Hide and Go Shriek from the wonderful 88 Films. I told you it was fun!

US Releases

Species (Scream Factory, Region A)

Synopsis:
When a beautiful human-alien hybrid escapes from observation, scientist Xavier Fitch dispatches a crew of experts to find her before she is able to fulfill her horrific purpose: to mate with unsuspecting men and produce offspring that could destroy mankind. As her deadly biological clock ticks rapidly, Fitch and his team are hurled into a desperate battle in which the fate of humanity itself hangs in the balance!

Pulse (Arrow, Region A)

Synopsis:
Japanese university students investigate a series of suicides linked to an Internet Web cam that promises visitors the chance to interact with the dead.

The Fate of the Furious (Universal, Region A)

Synopsis:
When a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of crime and a betrayal of those closest to him, the crew face trials that will test them as never before.

Star Crystal (Kino Lorber, Region A)

Synopsis:
Set in 2032, as missions from Earth are being sent to explore Mars. After two groups of astronauts are mysteriously killed following the discovery of strange artifacts on the martian surface, the crew of the SC-37 go in to try and find out what happened. They soon learn what became of their predecessors when a bloodthirsty space monster begins lunching on members of the crew. Will any of them make it back to Earth alive?

Shalako (Kino Lorber, Region A)

Synopsis:
A fairly standard Louis Lamour western. Shalako, the hunter and tracker has to save a party of European hunters who are in danger from an Indian uprising.

Star Slammer (Kino Lorber, Region A)

Synopsis:
Two women who have been unjustly confined to a prison planet plot their escape, all the while having to put up with lesbian guards, crazed wardens and mutant rodents.

The Man from Planet X (Scream Factory, Region A)

Synopsis:
To study a rogue planet heading for a near-miss with Earth, Prof. Elliot sets up an observatory on the foggy moors of a remote Scottish island, with his pretty daughter and Dr. Mears, a former student with a shady past. Soon after arrival of reporter John Lawrence, a ship from Planet X just happens to land near the observatory. Is the visitor (who actually looks alien) benevolent? What are Mears’ real motives for trying to communicate with it…?

The Hunting Party (Kino Lorber, Region A)

Synopsis:
A ruthless rancher, and his men, use extremely long range rifles to kill the men in the gang who kidnapped his unfaithful wife, who falls in love with their famous outlaw leader.

Don’t Look in the Basement (Brink, Region A)

Synopsis:
In Stephens Sanitarium, therapy has been replaced by torture and necrophilia. By allowing each patient to act out his psychosis, the director believes that he can cure insanity. The doctor becomes the victim of his own experiment when he is brutally murdered by an inmate. Charlotte, a young nurse practiced in experimental psychology, joins the shrinking staff, but nothing can prepare her for the gruesome scenes that await her at the asylum. Under the guidance of the new director, the stronger patients prey on the weak, as they plunge deeper into madness. Charlotte’s attempt to help turns into a fight for survival as the most violent and demented inmate emerges to take control of the entire hospital…

Synopsis:
A Swedish whaler is out for revenge when he finds out that a greedy oil man murdered his father for their land.

Hide and Go Shriek (88 Films, Region B)

Synopsis:
A group of teenagers spends the night in a furniture store for a graduation party. A psycho killer starts to hunt them down and kill them off.

Creepozoids (88 Films, Region B)

Synopsis:
The year is 1998, six years after the nuke wars reduced the world to rubble and a few bands of wandering survivors. One of these groups stumbles into an abandoned government research facility, where they were working on making the body capable of creating its own amino acids, thus obviating the need for food. They are then attacked by one of the leftover experiments and begin experiencing an attrition problem.

Stormy Monday (Arrow, Region B)

Synopsis:
Brendan takes a job as janitor for Finney, who runs a jazz nightclub in the Northern English city of Newcastle. But Finney is being pressured to sell his club, and Brendan soon provides non-janitorial services to Finney. Soon his rival’s American boss Cosmo comes to town, while Brendan begins to fall in love with Kate, an escort working for Cosmo.

I Drink Your Blood (88 Films, Region B)

Synopsis:
A band of satanist hippies roll into a town and begin terrorizing the local folk. They rape a local girl and her grandpa goes after them. He fails and is given LSD. This bothers his grandson and he gets back at the hippies by feeding them meat pies infected with blood from a rabid dog. They turn into crazed lunatics and begin killing and/or infecting everything in their path.
