UK’s 88 Films has a three new and exciting June releases now available for pre-order with Wes Craven’s Mind Ripper leading the way. For those that don’t know, Mind Ripper is the third film in Craven’s desert nightmare series, The Hills Have Eyes (the film is also known as The Hills Have Eyes 3: The Outpost). While not nearly as popular as the groundbreaking original entry from 1971 or even the mid-80’s follow up, Mind Ripper is an enjoyable slice of 90’s horror worth seeking out. And now you won’t have to seek much longer.

In this entry, the government mistakenly creates a monster when trying to reanimate a corpse found in the desert. Oops. For this go-around, Craven shifts to executive producer with future Sweet Jane director Joe Gayton taking over the director’s chair with a script written by Jonathan Craven and Phil Mittleman. The film stars Lance Henriksen and features an early film performance from Giovanni Ribisi. The 88 Films region B release will featuring a stunning HD transfer, limited edition slipcase that includes the original VHS artwork, limited edition booklet containing a rundown on the tangled five-part The Hills Have Eyes franchise by Calum Waddeell and a brand-new 40-minute on-camera conversation with Jonathan Craven. Mind Ripper will be released on June 25thPre-order your copy straight from 88 Films today.

Joining Mind Ripper in the 88 Films lineup this June are two new titles to the 88 Asia collection. First up is the insane horror entry Black Magic 2. The follow up the original 1975 film (previously released on Blu-ray by 88 Films) manages to be even more bonkers. Doctors struggle as they try and determine why they’re encountering patients that vomit worms, melt down, spontaneously combust and more. It’s a good time for all involved. Special features include audio commentary with Ian Jane, reversible original artwork and booklet notes. Black Magic 2 will be released on June 11th. Pre-order your copy from 88 Films now.

Rounding things out is 1975’s The Spiritual Boxer. In this martial arts comedy a con artist attempts to use kung-fu to swindle villagers out of money but ends up getting in over his head when the villagers are attacked by bandits and he must attempt to use his skills for good. This one comes courtesy of legendary director Chia-Liang Liu (36th Chamber of Shaolin, Drunken Master 2). The Spiritual Boxer will be released on June 11th. You can pre-order your copy today from 88 Films.

Hokum Review - Hokum Digital Release Date

After scaring up a strong theatrical run, Oddity director Damian McCarthy’s Hokum heads home to Digital this week.

Settle in for a spooky supernatural chiller as Hokum arrives on all Digital platforms to rent or own beginning June 2, followed by a Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD Combo and DVD release on August 11, 2026.

Adam Scott (“Severance”) stars in Hokum as reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman. When he retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, the staff’s tales of an ancient witch haunting the honeymoon suite take hold of his mind. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance draw Ohm into a nightmarish confrontation with the darkest corners of his past.

Peter Coonan (“The Alienist: Angel of Darkness”), David Wilmot (“Station Eleven”), Florence Ordesh (“Departure”), Michael Patric (“Frontier”), Will O’Connell (“Game of Thrones”), Brendan Conroy (“Bodkin”), and Austin Amelio (“The Walking Dead”) also star.

Get a peek at the upcoming physical media release below, including a few special features.

Spooky Pictures’ Roy Lee (Weapons) & Steven Schneider (Insidious) produce alongside Image Nation’s Derek Dauchy (Late Night with the Devil), Tailored Film’s Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, & Mairtín de Barra, and Cweature Features’ Ken Kao & Josh Rosenbaum.

I wrote in my review for Bloody Disgusting, “A quaint Irish hotel with a deeply haunted history awaits an American writer in McCarthy’s third outing, continuing his streak for folkloric tales of supernatural karma and spine-tingling terror with a dark sense of humor.”

What’s next from Damian McCarthy? He’s currently writing a haunted house movie, but recent comments suggest he may be moving into other genres beyond that upcoming project.
