Comic-Con Clip Went Back to the ‘Summer of ’84’
While Turbo Kid was set in an alternate apocalyptic 1997, the filmmakers collective of François Simard, Anouk Whissell, and Yoann-Karl Whissell are rewinding a little further back in time with a more realistic look in Summer of ’84 (read our review), which opens in limited theaters on August 3, 2018. The film took the stage at last week’s San Diego Comic-Con where they premiered a new clip, which is now being investigated online.
Sounding like a modern take on The ‘Burbs, the film takes place in the summer, 1984: a perfect time to be a carefree 15-year-old. But when neighborhood conspiracy theorist Davey Armstrong begins to suspect his police officer neighbor might be the serial killer all over the local news, he and his three best friends begin an investigation that soon turns dangerous.
“Mad Men’s” Rich Sommer and “Riverdale’s” Tiera Skovbye star in the film, alongside Graham Verchere, Judah Lewis, Caleb Emery, and Cory Gruter-Andrew.

One of my personal favorite horror movies of all time, 1987’s gateway horror classic The Gate is opening back up on May 14 with a brand new Blu-ray SteelBook release from Lionsgate!

When best friends Glen (Stephen Dorff) and Terry (Louis Tripp) stumble across a mysterious crystalline rock in Glen’s backyard, they quickly dig up the newly sodden lawn searching for more precious stones. Instead, they unearth The Gate — an underground chamber of terrifying demonic evil. The teenagers soon understand what evil they’ve released as they are overcome with an assortment of horrific experiences. With fiendish followers invading suburbia, it’s now up to the kids to discover the secret that can lock The Gate forever . . . if it’s not too late.
