As we told you back in June, the original camera negative for William Lustig’s Maniac has been found and scanned in 4K, with Blue Underground presenting the new 4K restoration as part of a 3-Disc Limited Edition Blu-ray release this year. It was originally set for release on November 13, but we’ve learned the release has been pushed back… for good reason.
So that the release can be all around better, it’s been slightly bumped to December 11.
The company details, “This is to accommodate the good news: We’ve decided to make the second disc a Blu-ray instead of a DVD. We’re moving the majority of Extras over to Disc 2, allowing more space to accommodate the Feature at a much higher bit rate. Our goal is to give MANIAC the best presentation possible on Blu-ray.”
Directed by William Lustig and featuring landmark gore effects by Tom Savini, this relentlessly shocking and disturbing film was originally censored all over the world due to its graphic violence. Now Blue Underground is thrilled to present Maniac in a brand-new 4K Restoration from its recently discovered 16mm original camera negative, overflowing with hours of new and archival extras…
