Shazam! director David F. Sandberg got his start in horror. After catching the eye of Atomic Monster’s James Wan with his short “Lights Out”, the film was adapted into a feature film for New Line Cinema. He then helmed the fantastic Annabelle: Creation for the aforementioned before bringing the DC character to life for Warner Bros.
His horror roots come out to play in this deleted scene that the filmmaker shared on socials. Created for and then eventually removed from Shazam!, the animated bit – also voiced by Sandberg – shows a young Frankenstein and his ghost friend nervous about going to prom. His father, Victor, lays down some wisdom.
“For a deleted scene in Shazam there was supposed to be a bad cartoon playing on a tv in the background,” said Sandberg. “I of course saw it as a chance to animate and do dumb voices myself. This is how far I got before we decided to cut the scene. Animated in Moho. ”
Also, if you haven’t seen Shazam! yet, it’s literally about seven demons (the seven deadly sins) that are released upon the planet. It’s a must-see for horror fans.
