IFC Dates Coming-of-Age Horror ‘Knives and Skin’ for December 6th
IFC Midnight will release its festival thriller Knives and Skin in theaters and on VOD and Digital HD December 6, 2019.
In the film…
“What happened to Carolyn Harper? Part suburban nightmare, part neon-soaked teenage fever dream, this tantalizing mystery traces the wave of fear and distrust that spreads across a small Midwestern town in the wake of a high school girl’s mysterious disappearance. As the loneliness and darkness lurking beneath the veneer of everyday life gradually comes to light, a collective awakening seems to overcome the town’s teenage girls—gathering in force until it can no longer be contained. Unfolding in a hallucinatory haze of lushly surreal images, Knives and Skin is a one-of-a-kind coming-of-age noir that haunts like a half-remembered dream.”
Knives and Skin is written and directed by Jennifer Reeder (Signature Move, “Crystal Lake”) and stars Marika Engelhardt (House of Purgatory, Come As You Are), Audrey Francis (“Empire,” Signature Move), and Tim Hopper (Vanilla Sky).
Joe Lipsett reviewed the film out of Tribeca writing, “Audacious in its experimental nature, when Knives and Skin works, it’s wildly entertaining. Unfortunately, the highs are too few and far between, and the film’s emphasis on style over narrative and character makes for a viewing experience that drags.”
One of my personal favorite horror movies of all time, 1987’s gateway horror classic The Gate is opening back up on May 14 with a brand new Blu-ray SteelBook release from Lionsgate!

When best friends Glen (Stephen Dorff) and Terry (Louis Tripp) stumble across a mysterious crystalline rock in Glen’s backyard, they quickly dig up the newly sodden lawn searching for more precious stones. Instead, they unearth The Gate — an underground chamber of terrifying demonic evil. The teenagers soon understand what evil they’ve released as they are overcome with an assortment of horrific experiences.
