Between Netflix and Amazon Prime, All Three Original ‘Candyman’ Movies Are Currently Streaming
We don’t often talk about the fact that Candyman is a trilogy rather than just one movie, as it’s typically the original from 1992 that we reserve the spotlight for. But that classic Clive Barker adaptation, directed by Bernard Rose, did in fact spawn two sequels: Bill Condon’s Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh in ’95 and Turi Meyer’s Candyman: Day of the Dead in ’99.
Tony Todd played the titular character in both sequels, the first of which brought Candyman to New Orleans. The final film saw Candyman battle a distant relative in Los Angeles.
In Farewell to the Flesh, “Candyman haunts the city of New Orleans, where a young schoolteacher named Annie Tarrant is struggling to solve the brutal murder of her father. The locals insist that he was slain by the Candyman, but Annie is not convinced… until she unwittingly summons the monster forth, learns the secret of his power, and discovers the link that connects her to him. But can she stop him before he kills again?”
And in Day of the Dead, “As the Day of the Dead celebration approaches the barrio of East LA, the tortured ghost is intent upon bringing his family together in a bloody reunion beyond the grave. Challenged to confront the horrifying legend of her ancestor, Caroline must confront the monster that destroyed her past.”
With Nia DaCosta’s Candyman arriving in theaters this June, we thought you’d like to know that the original classic is streaming on Netflix. And both sequels are on Amazon Prime.
