After a delay and being pulled from theaters due to the coronavirus pandemic, Universal Pictures quickly dropped their ultraviolent thriller The Hunt direct to specialty VOD platforms. It was worth every penny.

The Craig Zobel-directed The Hunt is just what I needed right now. As I wrote on Twitter, it’s harmless fun that doesn’t let its agenda-less commentary get in the way of having a good time. It carries an unlimited supply of hilarious gore gags and boasts an all-time great performance by the great Betty Gilpin.

Seriously folks, don’t let politics get in the middle of what is truly one of the most entertaining films of the year.

With that said, The Hunt arrives on Digital May 26, 2020, and on Blu-ray and DVD June 9th from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. The release includes behind-the-scenes featurettes on the making of this suspenseful thriller.

In the subversive satire, “A group of elites gather for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt ordinary Americans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of The Hunted, Crystal (Gilpin), knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off one by one as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (Hilary Swank) at the center of it all.”

Seriously, The Hunt is a must-see.
