Eric Red Teases Upcoming Blu-ray Release of ‘The Hitcher’?

We’ve been waiting…

One of the great horror classics that still hasn’t yet been released on Blu-ray here in the United States is 1986’s road movie The Hitcher, starring the late Rutger Hauer as a murderous hitchhiker and C. Thomas Howell as the young man who makes the mistake of picking him up. The film was written by Eric Red (Near Dark, Bad Moon), and directed by Robert Harmon.

Taking to Twitter, Red teases that the film may finally be coming to Blu-ray!

Red tweets, “Well folks, thousands of you have been asking me over the years when THE HITCHER is coming out on Blu Ray. All I’ll say right now is I have some very big news to announce very soon! Even I’m impressed.”

The Hitcher is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, so it would needless to say be the perfect time for that Blu-ray release we’ve been waiting for. Stay tuned for more as we learn it!

One of my personal favorite horror movies of all time, 1987’s gateway horror classic The Gate is opening back up on May 14 with a brand new Blu-ray SteelBook release from Lionsgate!

The new release will feature fresh SteelBook artwork from Vance Kelly, seen below.

When best friends Glen (Stephen Dorff) and Terry (Louis Tripp) stumble across a mysterious crystalline rock in Glen’s backyard, they quickly dig up the newly sodden lawn searching for more precious stones.
