From writer-director Maggie Gyllenhaal, The Bride! will make its streaming debut next Friday, May 22, on HBO Max. The film will air on HBO linear on May 23 at 8pm ET.
HBO Max will also have a version of The Bride! with American Sign Language, performed by ASL dubber Yamila Davis and directed by Rosa Lee Timm (Sinners with BASL).
Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley star in the iconoclastic take on the classic horror story with Peter Sarsgaard, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penélope Cruz.
It follows a lonely “Frank” who travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman, and The Bride is born.
What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!
Gyllenhaal produces alongside Emma Tillinger Koskoff (Joker, The Wolf of Wall Street), Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman Keren. Executive producers are Carla Raij, David Webb, and Courtney Kivowitz.
The Bride! is rated R for “strong/bloody violent content, sexual content/nudity, and language.”
