[Preview ’15] First Look At Alex Aja’s ‘The 9th Life Of Louis Drax’!
Now in post production via Miramax is Alex Aja’s (Horns, The Hills Have Eyes, Mirrors, Piranha, High Tension) latest supernatural thriller, The 9th Life of Louis Drax, starring Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey, The Fall), Aaron Paul (Last House On the Left, Breaking Bad, Need for Speed, Triple Nine) and Sarah Gadon (Dracula Untold, The Amazing Spider-man 2).
Empire landed the first ever image, which shows Fifty Shades of Grey‘s Jamie Dornan hooked up to some sort of machine.
“It reminded me of films like Vertigo or Bunny Lake Is Missing,” enthuses Dornan’s co-star Sarah Gadon to the mag.
“‘The 9th Life of Louis Drax’ begins on Louis Drax’s 9th birthday, when he miraculously survives a near fatal fall. His doctor Allan Pascal (Dornan) finds himself tangled between his professional responsibility and his growing affections for the boy’s mother (Gadon), a fragile young beauty. When Louis’ father (Paul) comes under suspicion, Pascal realizes other mysterious forces may be at work. With echoes of ‘The Sixth Sense’ and ‘Gone Girl,’ ‘The 9th Life of Louis Drax’ is a supernatural thriller filled with unexpected twists and turns.”
Joining Dornan, Paul and Gadon in supporting roles are Oliver Platt (X-Men: First Class, Chef, Frost/Nixon) playing Louis Drax’s psychologist, Dr. Perez; Molly Parker (House of Cards, The Road) as Detective Dalton; Barbara Hershey (Black Swan, Falling Down) who will play Violet, Louis’ grandmother; and Aiden Longworth (Hector and the Search for Happiness, A Christmas Story 2) in the title role of Louis Drax.
The feature screenplay, based on Liz Jensen’s best-selling novel of the same title, was written by Max Minghella.

‘A Man in the Woods With an Axe’ – First Look at ’80s Throwback Slasher [Exclusive]
We have an exclusive first look at A Man in the Woods With an Axe, a blood-soaked, genre-twisting homage to 1980s slasher films.
Spanning four decades, A Man in the Woods With an Axe begins in the summer of 1987 before pushing into the modern era, weaving together timelines and perspectives in a way that builds both dread and intrigue.
Drawing inspiration from genre standouts like Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, Hatchet, and The Cabin in the Woods, the film blends visceral horror with moments of dark humor, creating a uniquely balanced experience that honors tradition while carving its own identity.
Writer-director Dillon Brown (Primal Darkness) aims to deliver everything fans crave from a slasher while boldly subverting expectations with a mid-film twist that redefines the story.
“This is an unapologetic love letter to the films that made me fall in love with horror,” Brown tells Bloody Disgusting. “But I didn’t just want to recreate that feeling; I wanted to challenge it. About halfway through, the film takes a turn that completely changes how you view not only this story, but the genre itself.”
Brown describes the vintage-inspired production as “far and away the bloodiest film I’ve ever made,” with practical effects helmed by Cody Ruch (The Mill, Pig Hill), an instructor at Tom Savini’s Special Make-Up Effects Program.
From Horror Dadz Productions, A Man in the Woods With an Axe is currently in production and targeting an early 2027 release.
