“Scream”: Hi-Res Look At Ghostface Is Killer!

When I shared the first look at the Ghostface mask from MTV’s forthcoming “Scream” series, I thought that it had a very low-resolution quality to it, almost like it was a screengrab off a computer screen or something.

I got in touch with MTV and was able to get our hands on a hi-res version of the mask, which makes a huge difference. Seriously.

Below we have a beautiful, clean, HD look at the new Ghostface set to appear on the series when it premieres June 30th. You can really see all of the contours and details that were lost in the original, compressed image. I’m digging it way more. You guys?

“The new mask is cool and scary and takes the series into a new direction,” Craven said of the mask earlier this week. “It also ties into the story, which I won’t give away.”

I’ve been trying to crack the case of the missing “fleshy” look and shared this bizarre theory.

In “Scream,” “When Nina, a gorgeous entitled teen at Lakewood High School, is murdered in an apparent crime of passion, it exposes the inner workings of the town’s complex social hierarchy. After Audrey, a young artistic loner, is “outed” via cyberbullying, she has to find a way to hold her head up high with the help of Noah, her nerdy, hyper-intelligent best friend, and a renewed relationship with Emma, her former “bestie” from elementary school. In the meantime, Emma’s mom, Maggie (the town’s medical examiner) works with the town’s sheriff, Clark, to solve the murder and determine if it’s connected to a crime spree from the town’s dark past — a murder spree committed by a previous generation’s “bullying victim” Brandon James.

Willa Fitzgerald, Taylor-Klaus, Bobby Campo, Connor Weil and Joel Gretsch star in the new “Scream,” inspired by Wes Craven’s film series.

Dead Mail SXSW Dead Mail interview

One of the genre films we’re looking forward to checking out at SXSW this year is Dead Mail, written and directed by Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy and premiering on March 9.

Meagan Navarro will be reviewing Dead Mail for Bloody Disgusting as part of her SXSW coverage, and she writes in her preview for the upcoming fest: “Dead Mail leans heavily into the ’80s analog aesthetic, delivering a unique crime thriller unafraid to get offbeat with its dark narrative. Expect its characters to be as atypical as Dead Mail‘s sense of style.”

In the SXSW 2024 horror film…

“On a desolate, Midwestern county road, a bound man crawls towards a remote postal box, managing to slide a blood-stained plea-for-help message into the slot before a panicking figure closes in behind him. The note makes its way to the county post office and onto the desk of Jasper, a seasoned and skilled “dead letter” investigator, responsible for investigating lost mail and returning it to its sender. As he investigates further, Jasper meets Trent, a strange yet unassuming man who has taken up residence at the men’s home where Jasper lives.

“When Trent unexpectedly shows up at Jasper’s office, it becomes clear he has a vested interest in the note, and will stop at nothing to retrieve it…”

Sterling Macer, Jr., John Fleck, Susan Priver, Micki Jackson, Tomas Boykin, and Nick Heyman star in Dead Mail. Preview the film with an exclusive image gallery below.
