We live in an age where movie trailers get their own trailers, and sometimes, those trailers get their own teasers, which we’re allowed to see when a countdown site says it’s okay, and only after we’ve completed the alternate reality game tie-in that’s unlocked when we pre-order the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack from the one retailer that sells them. We know it’ll be everywhere eventually, so we either wait for that irritating timed exclusivity deal to run its course, or we support the retailer that paid the most to use the film to promote their new Premium Platinum Rewards program.
Movie geekdom wasn’t always this complicated, and that’s why I’ve proudly transitioned into the special kind of annoying person who goes on unwelcome tangents about their endless enthusiasm for movie posters. I’ll happily take a terrible poster, of which there are many, over another 10-second teaser for a trailer.
This artist gets it. I don’t know any more about him than you do right now, but I can tell he share’s our passion for the underappreciated art of transcribing a movie’s soul onto a static image. I bet if he were here, he’d tell us all about how each of his reimagined posters for classic horror films were inspired by that one time he had to find a Kentacohut in a blizzard for their exclusive 2-disc compilation, featuring Leprechaun: Back to the Hood and Troll 2. That was a dangerous stunt too, since I’m certain no one would survive watching those films back-to-back.
Then again, if you’re the kind of person who purposefully attempts such a marathon, do you not deserve to die? A question for another day, I suppose. For now, let’s enjoy some art.
