Last summer, our own Jimmy Champane hung around the set of The Nun outside Bucharest, Romania, and he had the chance to speak with director Corin Hardy. During their chat, Hardy provided some insight into his filmmaker process, explaining the first step he takes in bringing any script to life is hand-drawing early design sketches for the world and characters.
“I always start sketching when I get excited so once I started reading the script, I did drawings when I was on the train. Ideas, little looks of characters and things,” Hardy told press on set.
Now that The Nun is set to arrive in theaters next week, Hardy has provided us with a batch of those early sketches he drew up during pre-production, which you’ll find below.
The artwork provides glimpses of characters we haven’t yet seen in the film’s trailers, including a demon boy named Daniel, as well as a possessed nun by the name of Sister Victoria. Hardy also shared with us his very first sketch of the demon Valak, which is pretty damn creepy.
