On the surface, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Edward Scissorhands may not seem to have all that much in common, but let’s not forget that Johnny Depp did star in both films. Furthermore, both films feature a main character who has knives for hands, with the former pitting Depp against that character and the latter casting him as that character.
In this awesome mashup painting, Lee Howard plays up the loose similarities between the two classics, recreating Matthew Joseph Peake’s iconic Elm Street poster with Depp’s Scissorhands and Winona Ryder’s Kim playing the roles of Freddy Krueger and Nancy Thompson!
It’s perfect. Totally perfect. Job well done, Lee!
UPDATE: We’ve learned that this art will be printed on one side of a double-sided 12″ x 18″ poster for a special Holiday screening of a pristine 35mm print of Edward Scissorhands, preceded by authentic Tim Burton and genre Holiday-themed trailers in 16-35mm.
It is presented by Cineclub Film Society of Montreal, and all proceeds of the screening (and poster sales, on-site) will go to benefit the NDG Food Depot in Montreal.
Howard will have APs available on his shop and at conventions afterwards.
