Artist’s Drawings of the Supernatural Monsters from ‘Thir13en Ghosts’ Remind How Much That Movie Ruled

As I’ve noted in the past here on BD, I’m a big time fan of Dark Castle’s 2001 remake of Thirteen Ghosts (stylized as Thir13en Ghosts), which is loaded with incredibly cool supernatural monsters that were designed by the masters over at KNB FX. The various monsters include a headless torso, a jacked up dude who looks like Pinhead on steroids, and a slashed up woman who’s very much averse to the idea of wearing clothes; they all look like Spirit Halloween decorations come to horrifying life, and I say that as a total compliment.

The movie’s fictional Arcanum is a book that houses information about each of the monsters – those individual stories, though not explored much within the film itself, are wonderfully highlighted in a great DVD bonus feature titled “Ghost Files” – and artist David Romero has just used the book’s illustrations as the inspiration for his own drawings of the movie’s ghosts!

He explains, “Thir13en Ghosts has some of the best unused horror lore. I especially love the illustrations in the Arcanum and wanted to draw the ghosts as depicted in the book.”
