I’ve often said that horror fans are the most talented, creative fans out there, and the evidence to support that claim is in the many killer fan projects we share here on Bloody Disgusting each and every week. This latest one is no doubt one of the most unique I’ve ever reported on, coming from artist Richard Wilkinson. In short, he turns horror villains… into bugs.
Wilkinson explained in an e-mail to us this week, “Over the past few years I’ve been working on a project called ‘Arthropoda Iconicus’. It’s a series of imaginary insects inspired by pop-culture. It will make sense when you see them, I promise! My latest series of insects are entitled ‘Timorpersonae’ and are based on Horror Movie Icons.”
“A bit about me,” he continued, “I’m an artist and illustrator and have worked on many science magazines including ‘New Scientist’ and ‘Nature’ and books including ‘Welcome To The Museum: Historium’, as well as many commercial clients.”
Essentially, Wilkinson has created an entire species of deadly insects (“Timorpersonae”) based on horror icons like Pennywise, Jason, Freddy, Nosferatu and Frankenstein’s monster. And his handiwork, as bizarre as this all may sound on paper, is gorgeous, melding the looks of actual insects with the characteristics of horror villains in some truly stunning ways.
