[Crowd Source This] ‘Chanthaly’ Director Gets Haunted In ‘Dearest Sister’

Dearest Sister

Todd Brown of Twitch, and producer on The Raid films, is behind an Indigogo for a new indie project that can use the help of the horror community.

The funding is for Chanthaly director Mattie Do’s second film, Dearest Sister (Nong Hak).

For those of you unacquainted, Chanthaly broke ground as both the first ever Laotian film by a woman and the first ever Laotian horror film and this one has already been selected as part of the Cinemas Du Monde project market in Cannes.

Nong Hak is the story of a Lao village girl, whose only chance of escaping indentured poverty is to manipulate her wealthy cousin’s illness into dependence.

Nong Hak tells the story of a village girl from southern Laos who travels to Vientiane to care for her rich cousin who has mysteriously lost her sight, and somehow gained the ability to communicate with the dead. When the poor girl realizes that her cousin is receiving messages from the spirits that allow her to win the lottery, she has to choose between nursing her cousin back to health or keeping sick in order to get rich herself.
