Pigs Fly: ‘The Poughkeepsie Tapes’ Now On VOD!

Published

on

At long last, the Dowdle brothers’ awesome found-footage The Poughkeepsie Tapes is available on VOD – but there’s a catch. It’s quietly been dumped straight to DirecTV. There’s no word on when this movie may find its way to other VOD platforms, or to home video, but at least there are baby steps.

Bloody Disgusting was the first ever media outlet to review the film prior to its Tribeca Film Festival premiere back in 2007.

In it, “Hundreds of video tapes of torture, murder and dismemberment show a killer’s decade long reign of terror.

Since then, the Dowdles have directed Quarantine, the U.S. remake to [REC], as well as M. Night Shyamalan’s Devil, and the upcoming As Above, So Below.

Our personal insiders have told us that the delay was that MGM, who was to distribute the film theatrically, wanted to recoup their $2M marketing spend to whomever would acquire the feature from them. The DirecTV listing doesn’t state whom the distributor is, so it’s unclear how or why this is getting released. My bet is that it’s being dumped with the release of As Above, Down Below slated for next month.

Now that it’s out, what do you guys think of it?

The teenagers soon understand what evil they’ve released as they are overcome with an assortment of horrific experiences. With fiendish followers invading suburbia, it’s now up to the kids to discover the secret that can lock The Gate forever . . . if it’s not too late.

If you’ve never seen The Gate, it’s now streaming on Prime Video and Tubi.
